Feature Request to help mass adoption - Safe mode

in #steemit8 years ago

Today I logged in to Steemit to find the top trending topic was an article by Playboy Star Brenda Zambrano with a topless pick (albeit with well placed lettering to make it technically not NSFW). I propose that there be a Safe Mode so that when I log on with my wife or kids sitting next to me that this is not the first thing I see.

The idea behind Steem is being a place to post any content without being censored. But what that means is there are opportunities to post mature content and that may be undesirable for some to see. Especially if something in stem-girls or something like the Brenda Zambrano article gets up-voted and winds up in the trending page, or for anyone watching the new feed.

What I am proposing is that there be a special tag for mature content. It would be the responsibility of the original content creator to use this tag, but there should be a mechanism to flag a post as inappropriately tagged. I imagine that system working similarly to up votes so that you get paid if you find inappropriately tagged posts and much more so if you find them early (once enough other people agree). The important part about this is it encourages proper tagging and flagging inappropriate things quickly so that they can be filtered right away. Once we have this flagging mechanism in place it should be pretty straight forward to implement a safe mode that filters out anything mature or inappropriately tagged.

The important thing is that this will help us be adopted by the masses. Its the difference between Steem becoming thought of as tumblr versus Steem becoming thought of as 4chan.

Any thoughts? Does anyone else think this is an important feature?
