Youtube Crackdown on Content Creators?! The Case for Steemit, Dtube and DSound #1

in #steemit7 years ago

So, if you've been keeping up with the advertiser's strike on YouTube in the past year, then you know that YouTube has been going against its core base, content creators.

They have been banning "offensive" language and "hate speech," which could mean literally anything. That has negatively impacted gamers (which my normal posts are about), news channels (smaller ones), and more. Some of your favorite channels have probably stopped continuing their service because of this.

Some were able to survive the uneven distribution of this strike. How? They went to raise funds by shouting out their patreon / other links in their videos. All seems good, right? Yeah, for a short time things were okay, but not anymore.

YouTube launched an update this week that would not allow non-partner channels to post links on their videos at all. A spokesperson said that this was to decrease fraud accounts, but we all know the truth. YouTube (actually seems like Google) wants more money, and they want to please advertisers as well. At the end of the day, their content creators come last.

Some content creators that have a loyal fanbase of a few million have even been very much negatively impacted, but YouTube fails to give these individuals any clear answers as to why their channels have been demonetized.

Steemit, Dtube and DSound

So, where does Steemit and the likes of Dtube and DSound fit into the picture? The most important aspect is that Steemit (at this time of writing) doesn't depend on advertisers to keep their business going. While I understand that YouTube has bills to pay, they should be owning up to their responsibility to the content creators.

The next is that Dtube and DSound both have thriving markets for their fan bases to grow with them while earning an income. We can see how much the artists make, and they deserve what they earn because it takes time to grow.

With Steemit announcing their plans for tokens on other platforms, it will be interesting how things end up, but Steemit and the others are definitely here to stay and here to spread the wealth!
