Sprity the goat

Sprity the goat was a farmer. He had leased a bit of land from the local landowner - Mighty, the bull. Now, Mighty was a real businessman in every sense of the word. Mighty as his name suggested was indeed huge and powerful. All the animals feared him.

Sprity had been warned not to lease land from MIghty but he was in dire need of money and all he knew was farming. He was not skilled in any other job like welding, carpentry or such odd man jobs and so he could not go for such jobs. Sprity liked farming. He liked how the saplings grew under his care and turned out fine and provided food not only for his family but also the neighborhood.

This year, the rains failed. Sprity had no means to water his crops. The paddy field looked as if it was a patched up, dry land. The crops withered and sprity could not do anything about it. He tried asking for water from the canals of Mighty bull's farm but the helpers did not comply because they were afraid that Mighty would not not like it.

One day, Mighty came around to Sprity's house and asked for the rent. Sprity tried to convince him that he had no money but Mighty refused to listen and also got angry. Mighty threatened to confiscate Sprity's house and left.

Sprity went to the village elder, Wisey the lion. Now, Wisey had once ruled the village but was too old and weak. He gave advice to the villagers and they fed him. he was happy with it.

Wisey heard the tale of Sprity and nodded knowingly. He agreed to act as a mediator. Wisey called for a meeting and both parties arrived. Wisey had also called upon his sons, whom he knew Mighty feared. Wisey's sons were kind souls who visited their old man, occassionally. They agreed to speak for Sprity and use their power if needed.

Mighty and Sprity stood before Wisey who was seated on a chair by the Banyan tree. Wisey asked Mighty to write off the rental amount but Mighty did not agree and even advanced towards Sprity in a menacing manner. Sprity backed off. Mighty's sons had been watching all this. They brought out some papers and handed it to Wisey. He looked it over and ordered the officers present to arrest Mighty. Those present could not understand what had been going on. Wisey's sons explained that Mighty had usurped the land of Sprity's ancestors and was using it as his own. He was arrested and led away to prison. Sprity could not believe his ears. He started jumping in joy. He was now the owner of the land and quite rich too. He thanked Wisey and his sons and went home happily.
