The Boy Who Played Football Despite Double Fracture on Stronger Leg! My Football Story...

in #story7 years ago

I first watched football in 2002 (probably FIFA WC highlights on TV). I knew nothing about football then but I liked the game. In 2003, at school, I was made Captain of my section's cricket team. I left captaincy to play for football team as the least important player. I don't know why I did that but I remember that it was an impulsive decision.

That's the latest picture I have in a football field.

My football story is full of ups and downs. I think it is very inspiring too. Read the whole story to learn why. I have shared pictures and achievements on the way to document the football part of my life on Steemit blockchain.

That's me before a match three years ago.

The Beginning

On 11th April, 2004 I joined PAF Public School Sargodha (PPSS). The same day, we (new kids) were given trial for inclusion in our house (hostel) football team. I had almost zero prior experience but I kicked the ball well so I was selected for the team along with a friend. That day was practically my first day as a football player. I played the whole tournament and lack of experience showed throughout. I sucked!

The Fracture

Some months later, on 2nd December, 2004 I collided with a senior (who I work with at the same place now a days) for a common ball. I fell down with a major fracture of my right leg (right tibia).

I was injured badly and it was a major setback in my life. However, my passion for football did not let me stop playing and I was a contributing member of next tournament in April, 2005.

The Fracture, Again!

On 26 August, 2005 my already fractured leg collided with my classmate Adil Hasan and the same major fracture happened again. It happened because the earlier fracture had not healed properly.

Academic Side Ruined

Let me humbly mention that before these fractures, I was, by the grace of God, a topper in studies. Before 1st fracture, my position in class of 27 was a handsome 1st and in entry of 80 I was 2nd, behind the topper by just 1 mark. I suffered hugely on studies side.

But...

But neither the double major fracture nor the huge academic downfall were enough to derail my passion for football and sports. However, I became very careful about my leg and protected it by wearing protection.

The Weaker Leg

My right leg became so weak because of plasters that it was half the size of left leg. It was difficult and risky to use my right leg extensively so I started learning playing with my left foot. Alhamdulillah, I now have a very strong left foot.

That's my beloved college team shirt. I used to wear No 9.

I resumed and played well in 2006 Junior Football tournament only to see my multiple shots hitting goal posts at crucial times. Then in senior tournament of 2006, I played significantly well and we reached the final, only to lose on penalties. I became playing member of college junior team in 10th and was playing member of college senior team as well till my final year at PPSS.

My Football Rewards

Here are some of the rewards and certificates that I won in football.

Best Player Trophy - 2015

Football merit certificate from college.

When I was at the university, one of my many aims was to become member of university football team. I played all the inter department tournaments. I became and remained member of university football team in all semesters. During my days, we beat PMA Kakul twice, once at home and once away, and beat Pakistan Naval Academy too.

Academy Merit Certificate for Football & Hockey. I was a hockey player as well.

The color on the half is my reward which was announced in graduation ceremony and presented at dining out of my course. Sadly though, I wasn't there to receive it and collected it later.

Some footballs which gave their life in the line of duty. RIP!

During my professional career, I have been playing football regularly until recently. I also captained my department team and played for a local club. Now I have been posted. I am looking forward to be back to regular game. Football has taught me so many things that books would never have. It has earned me so much respect.

The Lesson...

The thing is, dear reader, that nothing can stop us if we have the courage to fight. We must rise higher after every fall. Every loss is a blessing in disguise.

Keep following your dreams!
Aim high!
Fight!
