Teamsouthafrica Purpose & Goals

South Africans are a colourful and cheerful bunch and I thought what better an image to use for today's post than these little houses in Muizenberg, Cape Town.

Alright, let's move onto the purpose of this post.

The Team South Africa Discord group has been successfully revived. This was the first and most important step that had to be taken. A big thank you to all those members involved! Whether or not you were there from the get go, slotted in yesterday or pop in once in a while just to say "Hi". We appreciate all your support and look forward to moving along from here.

Our work is far from over though... this is only the beginning. We've accomplished some of our goals however here is a further breakdown of what we want to do and accomplish going forward.

Teamsouthafrica Discord Group:

The basic outline of the Discord group is to create a vibrant and supportive community that will assist fellow members to grow their profile on Steemit.

What has been done to improve the Discord group in general?

In order to use the groups post promotion channel members are required to mention a fellow members post they have upvoted before being able to drop their own post links. This ensures that the post promotion channel is not merely being used as a dumping ground for posts and support amongst members is increased.

The general chat has been revived and members have been communicating on a regular basis. This helps to build relationships and increases the community drive and support.

We’ve created a Daily Nominated Post channel whereby one post is selected on a daily basis. This is to highlight an individual post and these posts are selected based on various criteria i.e. post quality, interaction, general support etc.

We’ve opened the group up to select non South African’s. The purpose of this is to increase membership and support. Please note though, that it is being done on a trial basis and could change going forward.

What do we plan on doing within the Discord group going forward?

We are considering opening a channel whereby anyone can drop competition related links. The reason for this is that competitions can be a great way to increase your account value and therefore your VP. The main criteria that will be taken under consideration for this is “What is the potential value to members that might win the competition?” It doesn’t help if this channel is filled with post links that hold a winning value of a few cents. The other consideration is that members who do enter a competition will not be allowed to ask for votes within the group. Therefore, the only allowance will be that a member can reply to a competition link by only mentioning “ENTERED”. Full details will be updated within the group.

We are also considering a channel whereby members may drop hints and tips on how to effectively grow their Steemit accounts. These may be popular tags, effective comments, groups that support specific content, whales that support good comments (by upvoting those) etc. This will not be a Q&A channel so any questions relating to what a fellow member has proposed need to be directed DIRECTLY towards that individual.

A new members welcome room is proposed. Certain members will be encouraged to give a warm welcome to the new potential member and engage the party to find out specific criteria. At the moment it is only admin that engages these members and this could leave someone hanging and potentially have them decide to rather leave the group. We would like to have it be more in line with being welcomed at a restaurant where hostesses warmly greet someone and makes them feel welcome and at home. This will require some settings for non members as well as another channel whereby these new potential members will end up. Teamsouthafrica will be looking for volunteers to assist in becoming hosts/hostesses and a detailed guideline needs to be drawn up on what the relevant procedure will be. We must give credit to The Writer’s Block where we noticed this wonderful idea. Members are welcome to contact me on Discord should they wish to assist or drop a response in the comments section below.

All pinned messages relating to channel usage and policies will be updated, where needed.

We would also like members of the group to make any further suggestions on where we can improve the Discord group. We’re only humans after all and this is a team effort.

What has been done to improve the @teamsouthafrica account?

First off, as many of you know now, the voting trail for the Team South Africa account has died off. We tried to see if we could fix it however to no avail. It does seem to kick in randomly however we have no idea how or why. Alright, let's move onto the points.

We have run a few competitions to increase membership and regain support for Team South Africa.

Due to the previous voting bot that died we have started setting up a new voting trail on Steemauto. We’ll be looking at regaining some of the past followers of the @teamsouthafrica trail as well as aiming towards some other members in order to increase the total VP on the trail.

What do we plan on doing with the @teamsouthafrica account going forward?

We would like to increase the overall VP of the Team South Africa account. The two main focus points will be to increase the amount of content created by @teamsouthafrica as well as to see how much delegated SP we can get for the account.

The prior will be done by getting more members involved in creating content on behalf of @teamsouthfrica since @therneau can’t do it alone. The suggestion is that members who have been nominated to create content will receive an incentive for doing so by receiving a certain amount of the post payout. Currently we believe a fair payment would be that the SBD author payout goes towards the member that created the post and the SP remains within the account. To start off with we will be looking at doing 1-2 posts per week using the @teamsouthafrica account where after it can be reviewed. The content will be related to specific topics i.e. Compiltation of the weekly nominated posts, updates on Team South Africa i.e. new members, changes to the group etc. Since we are hardly a boring and dry bunch, we would also welcome some fun and other related posts, provided it is related to Team South Africa and/or its members. These post suggestions may be discussed with the administrators or moderators. We welcome all Team South Africa members who would like to get involved to contact @therneau on Discord or mention it here, in the comments section.

The latter will initially be driven by @therneau however any members may assist by making suggestions or using their existing contacts on the platform they feel would be willing to assist in the growth of our local community by delegating some SP to @teamsouthafrica or assisting in an alternative manner to help us grow.

@teamsouthafrica will also be resteeming the Daily Nominated Posts to further increase the views for those members.

@teamsouthafrica is in the process of receiving further support for its members by means of a voting bot. These details will currently remain under the discretion of @teamsouthafrica and will be disclosed soon.

What is the deadline for all these changes?

We implore our members to remain patient since these changes will take time. We will however gradually instate changes and have decided to set a deadline for all changes to take place within a month of posting this article. We can’t guarantee that this will happen however that is the target that has been set and we will do our utmost to not only achieve it, but exceed it!

Team South Africa would like to thank its members for their ongoing support. If we continue to work together and help each other improve and grow we may well become one of the strongest communities on the platform. Remember, bigger isn't always better. Team South Africa has picked up on some truly talented Steemians, veterans and just all round wonderful people. We look forward to growing and learning together with all of you towards a better future for everyone involved.

*high-5 @therneau... awesone ideas! I'll be in touch soon as I've had one or two of these thoughts as well, and loving the potential of the ones that didn't even cross my mind.

Being a newbie/minnow myself, I've got my hands full trying to get myself established... but I've occasionally still got some spare time on my hands and will definitely be volunteering to help out in a month or so... need to get my own account is on steadier ground first :-)

Awesome stuff @braaiboy! Cool, you can just let me know whenever you're ready then we'll take it from there :) Running a single profile is a demanding job in itself therefore extra hands are always welcome. Cheers man, thanks for the lekker comment.

I'm (relatively) new to discord too, and dunno if that's an invite to the whole #TeamSouthAfrica server, or just 1 of the channels.

I remember those little Huts on that Beach , from when I was a kid! They really don't look all that Old! ( i must have had a harder life than them!)

Lol, well, paint works wonders. I'll find out where they get their paint from :)

Sent you a message on Discord , regarding some of the items mentioned in this post.

Thank you @therneau for your hard work and taking on this task! I really appreciate it.

It would hardly have been possible without the assistance of my fellow supporting members and ,of course, all the members on the group. @fates, @joanstewart & @dragonslayer109 should all be acknowledged as well. That, together with various other thank you's and acknowledgements, will form part of @teamsouthafrica's posts in future as well :)

I have started a list of South African Steemit users an would appreciate if you took a look -https://steemit.com/south-africa/@cryptoscout/list-of-south-african-steemians

Love the colors contrasts. Was this shot taken in Cape Town or around there?

Yeah, Muizenberg just outside of Cape Town. I picked the image off of Pixabay :)

I thought I might be right.

Great stuff! Would really love to be a bigger part of the South African Steemit community! I'm a photographer from Pretoria and would love to help out in any way I can. I'm able to do basic design work as well!

Let me know and keep up the great work!

Awesome going!

Change and progress are always something that we aspire to. There are plenty skills and habits to try learn as an individual that will make your own account grow and become strong. My account is not strong right now, but I have been looking and learning and I can put my money on it that what I see is true.

The same goes for GROUPS. Although the skillset is different. A community can be extremely powerful and influential. It was make our accounts grow and improve. But it will require perseverance!

I am here for the long while not the short while. Count me in.

Good stuff! Thanks for your great comment. We're glad to have you around as part of our community :)
