6 HOURS IN STOCKHOLM – YOUR SMALL TRAVEL GUIDE

in #travel6 years ago

I have been in Stockholm 2 time and both with a ferry. But there is one very important nuance – only 6 hours to see Stockholm before ferry is going back. I know a lot of people who traveled to Stockholm with a ferry but in the end they saw nothing but ferry. Some my friends said that 6 hours was too less, someone was feeling sick after ferry, someone just didn’t know where to go...

If you realy want to see Stockholm in 6 hours and a little bit feel this city atmosphere, you need to understand 2 things:

1.Save your time!

You have only 6 hours and you want to explore Stockholm! So, then don’t throw time away in unnecessary things. Before going out from the ferry, go to the toilet so you don’t need first 40 minutes in city to spend searching for wc. Go to city center with a public transport. It takes only 30 minute ride, going by foot – about 1 hour. If you want to eat – take something from fast food or take away! Believe me, in restaurant you will not see so much as outside, but 1 hour you will lose by eating at place.

2.Plan your time by knowing what you want!

The most important thing is to understand what you want to see or do. Take a walk in city centre? Visit museums? Shopping? Maybe just sit in the sun and drink coffee? Or search adventures? That’s all possible! But I would only advise to plan all your ‘’must see’’ or ‘’must do’’ to be as close to each other as possible. Going through city to other side will take a lot of time, but our time is limited.

I would advise to plan your time with a more than only one thing. And less than 5 things, because everything is taking a time and we don’t want to remember Stockholm by rush, right? We want to explore and relax. And, of course, be in time on our ferry.

My perfect 6 hours in Stockholm includs getting to city centre, taking a walk by most beautiful places, visiting one museum, eating some fast food or taking meal with me, sitting in sun and enjoying atmosphere, getting back to ferry.

And here are my TOP places for a Stockholm visit in 6 hours:

Old Town (Galma stan) – one of the largest and best preserved medieval city centers in Europe, and one of the visited attractions in Stockholm. This is where Stockholm was founded in 1252. There are several beautiful churches and museums, award-winning restaurants, cafés, bars, shops, and a number of wonderful museums.

Royal Palace – with more than 600 rooms Stockholm’s Royal Palace is up there with the largest palaces in Europe. There are five museums in this mostly 18th-century complex, which isn’t just a historical relic: The King of Sweden still lives here, most royal events and receptions happen at the palace.

Kungsträdgården (King’s Garden) – park in central Stockholm, Sweden. It’s one of the most popular hangouts and meeting places in Stockholm. It also hosts open-air concerts and events in summer but between mid to late April Stockholm celebrates Cherry Blossom! The most beautiful time in Stockholm!

Strandvägen – most glamorous boulevard in the city, with architecture to die for. It is one of the most exclusive addresses in the city with views to Gamla Stan and Skeppsholmen island. This boulevard is magical! Perfect for a walk, a coffee or a book!

Vasa Museum – The Vasa is the only preserved seventeenth-century ship in the world and a unique art treasure. More than 95 percent of the ship is original, and it is decorated with hundreds of carved sculptures. The Vasa was a 64-gun warship that went down on its first voyage in 1628. And there it lay for more than 300 years. In 1961 it was lifted to the surface and slowly and painstakingly restored. Today the Vasa Museum is the most visited museum in Scandinavia.

Aquaria Water Museum – amazingly made museum where you feels like walking between seahorses, sharks, piranhas and clownfish. Aquaria takes you through various environmental zones – from tropical jungle and coral reef to sewer systems – with an emphasis on ecology and the fragility of the marine environment. Perfectly for all family!
