So let me take you on a thrilling journey to the wild with unbounded nature. This place is considered as one of the natural wonders of the world and also recognized as UNESCO world Heritage site. Yes, I am talking about The Sundarbans (This name has been derived from the Sundari Trees located in this forest. Now what  Sundarbans actually means  ‘Sundar’  it means beautiful and  ‘Bans’ means forest these two words are a part of Bengali Literature ) , located in the delta region of Bay of Bengal of Padma, Meghna and Brahmaputra river basins it is a very big forest and contain numerous wildlife species, birds and reptiles, chital, crocodile, snakes many of which are considered endangered and the reason for which it is most famous and for which lots of tourist are attracted is The Royal Bengal Tiger all animals here are totally wild you can experience the real wildlife not a caged one. Beside this it is also famous for the largest Mangrove Forest in the world.

About the Community

As it is located in the outskirt of the main city disconnected from road transport, because nature have decided to keep this evergreen forest and its life from the human invasion so population density is less. There are many small island which are divided by rivers and its tributaries so these part are only accessible by boat.

The peoples and the community are little bit backward they still use primitive technologies you can explore those communities too. Though most part are got developed due to the tourist visits still you can experience the little bit of early life.

The journey to the land of Tigers

Now lets begin the journey so our journey starts from the city Kolkata (The city of Joy) capital of West Bengal it is one of the state in our country India, densely populated by Bengali's with rich Bengali Culture. (“I will provide the details of the itinerary, where to stay and plans in the next part. I want to keep the thrilling on in this part”).   So from here there are many ways to reach the destination one can go by bus or train to a particular point but as I have said earlier that Sunderbans have many island and we will stay on one of these island named Sajnekhali we have to reach this by boat no other mode of communication.Boarding the boat

As you board the boat it will take 3-4hrs to reach there but on the way you will get to experience the nature and the peoples who are living in this outskirt.

Local peoples going to town.

Transporting their daily food and other essentials.

It will be an very exciting journey you will simply can’t realize the journey time, first time in life you will experience this kind of thrilling journey.

Some more on the way Images

About the Island

‘Sajnekhali’ which is completely acquired by our West Bengal Government this island is basically covered by dense forest and is situated just in the middle of the forest. Here we will stay at Sajnekhali Tourist Lodge owned and maintained by West Bengal Tourism  Dept. This island does not have any community it is totally separated from sundarbans community it is specially developed for tourist though other island have lodging facility with local community but this island is a bit different if I want to say that  you will stay in the wild with the wildlife.

View from our Island

As you will enter the gate of this island you will realise the true essence of wildlife and your heart will beat first by seeing the deep forest, I can guarantee you that this experience will remain for lifelong . But no need to fear the area where you will stay is well protected with fence and there are armed guards too. As it is an Govt island so it have museum related to this forest and they have some Gharials too also it have watchtower from where you can take a look at the deep forest.

The most interesting part will be the night you can hear many wild sounds and if you are very lucky then The Royal Bengal tiger might visit the place. We are not lucky to see this creature but two days before our visit he actually came very close to the fence many have seen it too. I believe you have got goosebumps after hearing all these. You will never ever experience this felling if you don’t visit here it is completely different from safaris or National park or zoos staying in the wild and experiencing it.

In search of the Tiger and Nature

So after the first day of staying and resting next morning will be your exploring day. If you can get up early in the morning you can see the spotted dears the fence they come there to eat the food remaining disposed by the lodge kitchen. Also the top most priority for you is to gear up yourself with a good camera setup so that you can capture all these.

Boarded the boat.

Now the real journey begins in search of tiger and to explore nature it will be a 9hrs trip this journey will cover most part of the forest it will take you to the swampy lands with deep forest and many creek where the probability of spotting the tiger is max. While the boat moves through the creek you will feel the silence of the forest with an one an only the boat motor engine sound, it is so refreshing to go like this and also exciting to see new animal species and the forest natural habitat.

The breakfast and lunch will be served on this boat only. As I have said earlier make your camera always ready because you will spot many bird creatures, new kind of tree species and the most importantly The Royal Bengal Tiger as it depends on luck to spot this particular animal, but mostly it can be seen in early morning because they come near the waterways to drink water.

The End of the search…..

Now after all this you will return to the lodge in my case I visited here in a peak time so I got only 1N/2D accommodation and rooms are limited but I will tell you all details in my next part regarding the planing so that you can explore everything and I will share some more images too. If you get to stay there then you will be taken on to some of the islands to explore the community and its culture.
