RE: Just another day on Steemit, why I feel helpless.
Oh yes, my apologies!
It is sad, the trending page is misleading to passers by in so many ways.
My question is, what would be the best content to have sitting at the top of Trending for those visiting steemit.com for the first time?
No problem at all.
Keeping it as diverse as possible I guess. My new trending page is @curie's voting list :-) They discover a lot of great content.
Definitely an option!
@carlgnash and co will be very happy to hear that!
It looks fairly diverse, if you go by main tag?
Enjoy your holidays! Please bring us back some fresh and diverse content, thank you! :D
Thanks for the tip. New here. I have, after a little more than a week, begun to discount the Trending page. I'm more comfortable on the New page, because then I get to choose what I like and not what other people like. However, briefly checked out @curie and it seems to have interesting material highlighted. I think Steemit is great. There may be flaws, but I've never been in any circumstance that was perfect. In the short time I've been here, I've run into a lot of positive voices. I've learned about plants in Australia and magnetars. I can find a way to be comfortable on a diverse platform like Steemit. Of course, I am new, and eager. I love to write and find this forum prompts me to do that. I'm spending way too much time here. :)
If anyone hasn't yet, they should vote Curie for witness.
It's one of the last great hopes for Steemit.
Well said :-)
I may have gotten myself in trouble tonight. Sorta lost my internal "don't say that" guy. :P Hopefully my rep doesn't suffer to much.
For promoting Curie? I don't know how this could have any negative consequences for you rep? It should be the other way around :-)
Nope, for all the other stuff I said. I'm sure you will see at least some of it. Part of it was defending you in a post, others was just calling out those with a lot of SP who are abusing it in my opinion. :) hopefully I'm not clobbered come morning.
What is wrong with having an opinion, especially if you are pro good/quality content and against abuse? :-) Thanks for your support though. The only thing you need to know when entering controversial debate is that you're part of the crossfire and may suffer from side effects such as flags, people calling you names etc. As long as you know to (mentally) handle this, everything is alright. I recommend surfing or other type of outdoor sports to balance stress :-D Am on my way to the Swiss mountains now for skiing... see you soon!
Are you familiar with the ancient Greek saying, "know thyself?" Well, I spent the vast majority of my adult life watching and pondering my actions, thoughts, and intentions, I know the good and likewise the evil I am capable of. While a volley of flags could certainly have an effect on my voice here on this platform, I have little concern for the name calling of individuals who likely, have not spent ten minutes in self reflection. It would be like a seasoned painter giving mindfulness to a three year old calling her work stupid. For perhaps in the three year old's head it is stupid, but they know nothing of art. Likewise are the attacks of an untrained and nonobservant mind.
I think indeed, this is also part of the problem: the "normal users" just want to blog and find some friends or even fans who support them. We're sometimes kind of "too respectful". We are also allowed to have an opinion. But of corse most of us don't want to be in a fight all day. Nice seeing you here, still have to read all your replies from yesterday.^^ This is all so much! The comments on this post here!
I'm afraid the time of me holding my tongue, is coming to an end. I would rather burn my account to the ground, speaking truth to injustice, than complacently capitulate to the will of the rich. If this causes mortal wounds to my account, I would rather suffer them now, while I have little invested. For this battle is inevitable. Would I even be willing to fight, if I had thousands of hours invested in it? For I could not bear to stand by and watch the beauty and potential this platform offers, slowly erode away, without my attempting to stop it.
So I will unsheathe my sword, as humble and pathetic as it may be and begin to strike at the root. Perhaps others will join me, and we may chop down the proverbial "bean stock" before the evil giants have free reign of our villages.
Fixing the trending page would be fairly simple thing to do sort of:
But then you would get people saying that I think my content is worthy of my vote, if it is not worthy of my vote why would it be worthy to someone else. Also you would get, vote bots are allowed and available why should I not be able to be on the trending page just because I bought a vote. And then what I hear from all the people that want to keep using vote bots, "you can't tell them from real people, and if you did away with them then you would just have people getting more names and false accounts to upvote themselves.
I would bet that almost every individual that has responded to this post with a REP of more than 62 has used one or more vote bots. I would hazard a guess that more than 85% of the people with reps of 62 or more on steemit have used a vote bot on a post or two. So the problem will likely never go away.
