Some thoughts on "Natural Law"
Natural Law to me is just that, natural. Whether or not you believe in God is irrelevant so I'm not going to get sidetracked on the endless debate of Intelligent Design vs Big Bang. I think we can all agree that the sun and moon are following Natural Law. I believe that a long time ago. Perhaps when Cain killed Abel. Or maybe long before that, mankind got off course. We stopped following Natural Law. We no longer interacted with each other as we were created to. I believe that if mankind followed Natural Law we would move among each other with the same harmony and cooperation as the planets move about the universe. Changing tides and seasons without friction or force.
Studying the history of civilization one thing leaps out to me. All of our systems of government, justice and religion have for the most part been adversarial in the resolution of the conflicts that inevitably arise when humans interact.
Imagine if you can how different our history would be. How different our existence would be. If, that very first time two humans came into conflict. Instead of viewing each other as adversaries they worked together to find a resolution that benefitted both parties. A harmonious resolution like the moon and tides or the seasons and the sun. Now imagine building on that as we have built on the unnatural acts of our ancestors. Imagine every conflict on an individual, community and global scale resolved peacefully and cooperatively. Every individual and group of individuals working in harmony for self and mutual benefit. Each person free to live as they choose as long as they don't violate the rights of others. Every choice and every transaction made voluntarily.
I know it's hard. Maybe even impossible to picture this world I describe after a millennia of the perversion of Natural Law and countless years of groupthink indoctrination. A friend suggests that it will require the rewiring of our brains. Creating brand new neural pathways in both our conscious and subconscious minds. So even if at this point in time we humans are incapable of making this vision of mine a reality. We Can Dream!
If everyone adhered to Natural Law this World would look like a completely different place.
1 Samuel 8, if you're into such things.
Anarchochristian did a good podcast on it a couple weeks back.
