How a little bit of Voluntaryism could have saved the Olympics

Now if you've been paying attention to the 2016 Olympics in Rio, you're probably fully aware of the issues, and controversy plaguing the Games:
Poor training conditions, disqualified teams, and the shortage of money Brazil has to host these games.
Some people are calling this year a complete failure due to poor ratings. it even makes you ponder if the Olympics are really that important anymore, and if due to our societies new digital direction if we even really want to see the olympics as anything other then old news.

Honestly, I don't think so. Honestly, I believe the Olympics had the chance to become way bigger then ever before. It could easily have the chance of being the most talked about event our humanity has to offer. How? With a little bit of Voluntaryism of course.

Anyone notice something this year? The lack of coverage. The complete ignorance of what is even happening.. I have a few hundred friends on my facebook, and I have yet to see one post on my front page: no highlight reels, no live feeds. I don't even know what's going on other then some woman named Thrasher won a gold medal.
Why do I think this is? Well. One of the first shocking things I noticed this year was the IOC banning the creation of GIFs for their content. Completely removing the ease of digestion GIFs have to offer for the publics enjoyment. While the IOC thinks GIFs would deter people from watching the games live on T.V. I think they would add hype more then anything.
If we look at Connor McGregor, and Ronda Rousey. Both these UFC fighters got the complete bulk of their fame from internet exposure, mainly from gifs and snippits posted online. Their ratings were collosal compared to others before them.
Why? Because people got that Voluntary Free taste of the product they wanted to represent. People like seeing and buying stuff they're familiar with, this is what people forget is the main principle of advertisement. If you asked me what would be best for the Olympics. I say make it super easily accessible, drop the copyrights, and allow people to do whatever they want with the content. If your Uncle Joe wants to create a montage on youtube of his favourite football plays, let him. Everyviewer of that video is a new customer. Even if they are paying or not, their influence can extend to others. As a capitalist world, we need to stop being scared, and secluded with our content. We need to stop always worrying if we'll make money, or not. The Money is just the resource, the main currency is the consumers.
I'm trying not to make this too long, but I hope you guys get where I'm coming from here, and you apply these methods to yourself, and own business. Don't be the IOC. Goodluck ^_^
