Wisdom from the east
Greetings!
Today I want to share with you my huge passion for Eastern philosophy. We in the West have become so set in our ways that often we forget that there are others out there that may be wiser than we are. Ancient philosophers from the East have said many things that have impacted my life greatly, some that have changed my entire view of the world. I will share a few of them with you, and I hope you take them to heart.
One of my favorites comes from the poet and philosopher Rumi, who believed that love was the center of all things. One of my favorite quotes from him though, is not about love, but rather knowledge.
How are we to learn if we are constantly filling our minds with things that do not matter? I believe Rumi was right on the button when he said this.
The next quote I want to share is from Albert Einstein. He says "If you can't explain something simply, you don't understand it well enough." This has had quite the impact on the way I learn. It's given me a reason to keep studying until I know a subject in it's entirety. I believe it is important to keep learning, all the time.
Here is another one that I really like:
I think you'll agree when I say that the emperor when he said this. We waste too much time debating ethics, and not enough time living our lives well.
There are hundreds more quotes that I could share with you, but I hope this small sample is enough to demonstrate to you that we should be looking outside of ourselves for wisdom.
