Saturday Night Love Story
It was Saturday night, and like every other Saturday night, it was a full house at the Copa. Everyone had a cocktail, the band was playing and this little guy they all called "Blue Eyes" was singing, and the song was "All or Nothing at All." As for the gals, there was plenty to go around; they outnumbered the guys three to one but most of the lovely ladies were pretty damn picky, and the odds were six, two and even that a regular Joe couldn't get to first base much less score himself a dance. As a matter of fact, to hell with first base, most of the bums couldn't make it out of the dugout.
Meanwhile, in the lobby, an excellent looking devil had just checked in his forty-six long black cashmere top coat and a dark gray three-point fedora. Standing six foot one, wearing a dark evening suit, black shoes, white shirt and a medium red tie, Mister Handsome commenced walking into the lion's den.
Upon entering the room, his dark brown eyes wasted to time; immediately, on the far side of the room, he saw her alone at a table waiting for Mister Right to sweep her off her feet. Adorned with shoulder length dark brown hair and with the face of an angel, her womanly sense told her that she was being watched. She gazed in his direction and immediately she began to blush. ... She saw him looking and her, and he saw her looking at him. Quickly, he buffed his black shoes on the back of his pant legs and then proceeded in her direction. Due to her beauty being beyond measure, his heart skipped a few beats. After his trek across the floor, within nine and a half seconds the two were the talk of the dance floor.
All was picturesque, the way her red low-cut evening gown blended perfectly with his dark evening suit. How gracefully her chin reached and then rested on one of his broad shoulders. How their eyes were fixed on one another as her long brown hair and gown moved and mimicked with each dance step. Although the room was filled, they were all alone, isolated and locked, their anticipations had been transformed into that of a euphoric moment.
The song ended and the moment finally arrived, it was "All or Nothing at All" so, he took her in his arms and kissed her. Firm and yet tender, he held her by the small of her back, and the kiss lingered; and with each passing moment she sighed a sigh, and still, the kiss lingered. All in unison, their lips separated and arm in arm they both floated back to the table. Promptly, he signaled to the waiter and then ordered the best of Champlain. The timing was more than perfect; with the help of the band, that little guy they all called "Blue Eyes" began to voice the song, "I've got a Crush on You." In the middle of the verse, she looked at him, smiled and said, "You're late."
With a boyish grin, he replied, "Yes, I know, but I had to make a stop." He then reached into his right suit-coat pocket, and a second later he placed a two-and-a-half-inch black velvet box on the table in front of her. He then smiled and said, "Better late than never." He then watched as her trembling hands picked up and opened the small package.
Thus; with a few tears of joy, she gazed into the box. Her tears then transformed into a deluge as she said, ... "Yes," and immediately they both strolled back to the dance floor, and as they embraced, that skinny little guy that they all called "Blue Eyes" sang the words, "I've got a Crush on You, Sweetie pie, all those days and night-times, hear me sigh. I never had the least notion, that I would fall with, so much emotion. Could you coo, could you care, for a cunning cottage we both could share? The world will pardon my mush `cause, I have got a crush, my baby, on you.” (“I’ve got a crush on you” by, George and Ira Gershwin)
