Hye guys I am sure u people have heard about the seven (7) wonders of the world but today I am going to take you to a place which may be called the #8th wonder of the world and that is khunjerab pass also known as shahrah e karakuram this is known as the #8th wonder because it is the highest ever road in the history. This highway is also known as the highway of friendship, the highway is the masterpie of the Pakistani and Chinese engineers, this highway was made by cutting the surface of the hard karakuram mountains, this is 1300 KM long highway which connect Chinese province Xinjiang and Pakistani province KPK, it starts from Havelian Pakistan and ends in china
History of khunjerab Highway
It is not the road of few decades, this road was used from centuries where Chinese businessman used to come to Pakistan through this way, Chinese people used to bring the Chinese products and exchange it on barter system in Pakistan, but this was a very dangerous way, thousands of people died on this way through sliding from mountains, so this was a big challenge to change this dangerous way to a highway, almost 800 pakistani and 200 chinese workers died duringthe construction of this highway, you can imagine the difficulty of this work when in start a british firm rejected this project by saying that it is impossible to make a road in these mountains and then Pakistan and china engineers make this dream possible, this work was started in 1966 and ends in 1979
Some details of the work
When this work started about 15000 pakistani and 9000 chinese workers used to work at the same time, this was not an easy work to cut these mountains about 8000 tons of dynamite was used to cut these mountains and almost 30 million m³ of stone was destroyed to cut these mountains, the Pakistan airforce helped in the supply of the material, this highway includes 24 big bridges, 70 small bridges.
