The Cost Of Appeasing Social Justice Warriors, Snowflakes, And The Easily Offended

in #news6 years ago (edited)

Politically correct garbage has got to be called out. It seems that social justice warriors think that if you change the words you use for things you can change reality, but you can't. Just as you can't stop people from using drugs by waging a war on drugs, you can't make people un-racist by banning the "N" word. You can't stop people from being homophobic by banning school children from using the word gay in the playground.

This is akin to getting someone to love you by screaming at the at the top of your lungs, "YOU BETTER LOVE ME OR ELSE!" It just doesn't work and often creates the opposite outcome than you were intending.

Politically Correct - A way that we speak in America so we don't offend whining pussies.

Some of the same politically correct zombies who express outrage against the failed war on drugs and ridicule the governments attempt to regulate gay relationships and pro-choice legislation because they see the obvious conflict in trying to regulate what people do in private between consenting adults, are blind to the same obvious conflicts in trying to regulate what people say and think in public if it is different from their own thoughts and feelings.

You don't get to pick and choose who feels what or what they say with their own mouth just because you don't agree with it or it hurts your sensitive feelings. Grow the fuck up.

I know some PC advocates are trying to demonstrate to minorities that they're sympathetic by dumping on their own whiteness, but most minorities don't give a shit. There's got to be some sweet spot between the PC Police and the actual police.

Social Justice Warrior - A mini Stalinist who thinks they are moral guardian of society except for the fact that they were never elected for the job. In the past, SJW's outlawed alcohol and porn. People with childish mentalities are attracted to the leaders of any SJW' movement thus becoming a SJW. Smug, loud, never donating a dime to the poor but will buy an Apple laptop with a smartphone in a heartbeat. Usually self-loathing whites from all white communities in America so they have white guilt. The minorities involved are the kind everyone hates to be around. Hardcore pussy's, when you actually debate them on a one on one issue, will bring up Hitler, Nazis, and the Holocaust and call you a racist when they feel their point of view is challenged. source

Here's a crazy theory for all you conspiracy theorists out there. Is it possible that through the use of social media our society is being manipulated by those in power with an interest of turning society against itself? It's been done before. There's even a rulebook for how to do it you can read at The 7 Commandments Of Disinformation - How To Create (And Spot) Fake News Stories

I have a lot of respect for Seth MacFarlane. I think he's a fantastic writer and one of the few classic liberals in Hollywood who's willing to call out both sides of the political aisle. He's not afraid to laugh at the dominant cultural paradigm.

Family Guy has always been a hilarious show but recently it's become even more culturally relevant, with commentaries on the absurdity of political correctness, social justice warriors, millennials, and social media outrage culture and internet witch hunts. There's no denying that even the most ardent progressive would be hard-pressed to not see the humor and stupidity in their ideology when satirized in this way.

There's a no better way of intelligently making arguments against PC nonsense than using comedy to expose its hypocrisy and how massively uncool it is. Its hypocrisy is so obvious that it's laughable. Here's a group that fights against using language that discriminates against disadvantaged members of particular groups in society with the aim of being more inclusive and promoting diversity while they themselves discriminate against any ideas that differ from their own.

The term political correctness (adjectivally: politically correct; commonly abbreviated PC) is used to describe language, policies, or measures that are intended to avoid offense or disadvantage to members of particular groups in society. Since the late 1980s, the term has come to refer to avoiding language or behavior that can be seen as excluding, marginalizing, or insulting groups of people considered disadvantaged or discriminated against, especially groups defined by sex or race. In public discourse and the media, it is generally used as a pejorative, implying that these policies are excessive or unwarranted source

Politically Correct - One of the most annoying two words put together that mean shit. source

Social justice warriors (SJW) who express self-righteousness and moral superiority seem blind to their hypocrisy to the point of exuding and demonstrating a stance and attitude even worst then those they proclaim to fight against as well as the intolerance to a diversity of opinion and anyone who opposes current progressive trends.

This perfectly crystallizes the kind of social media narcissism of today, how people want to present an idealized version of themselves to the world through their status updates, pictures of the food they eat, the holidays they've been on and how cultured and sophisticated they want to make themselves appear.

The ongoing debates in the news about where transgenders are going to the bathroom are such a non-issue raised to the level of national attention by people who have no business talking about it. Who cares? News Flash. Every bathroom in every household in the country, as far as I know, has been used by both sexes since we started living in houses. There have been transgenders going to the bathroom in public restrooms for years before this was a thing and it was never a problem.

There have been tacos being sold by non-Mexicans in the US and it was never an issue just as there are hamburgers being sold in Mexico by Mexicans and no one cares. No Mexican gives a shit if you're selling tacos, but some SJW calls it "cultural appropriation" and it makes national news to the point of some popular restaurants in Oregon having to close down from the barrage of negative pressure of how wrong it is for a person to sell tacos because they're white and not Mexican. How fucked up is that? That kind of logic would have us closing almost every kind of restaurant in the U.S. and eating Velveeta and Spam for the rest of our lives.

When I showed that story to my Mexican friends in Mexico who have American restaurants they all laughed and thought how crazy Americans are, as crazy as the thought of Trump telling US citizens that Mexicans will pay for a wall between our countries and us believing it.

These supposed people who preach tolerance and acceptance of other cultures while they themselves act intolerable toward their own culture is, well, intolerable and demonstrative of the height of hypocrisy.

I wonder when the heads of major entertainment corporations will finally learn that just because of an angry Twitter mob tweets at you endlessly about how you've offended their delicate sensibilities, that that is not justification for changing or canceling your TV shows.

I'm reminded of the calls by feminists to cancel Colbert a few years ago, not that I'm a fan or a more recent example with the controversy surrounding the character of Apu on the Simpsons.

It seems that nowadays that the views of a small minority of leftists filled with moral outrage carry more weight than the majority of audience members who are happily enjoying the show. It only takes a few joyless, whiny, self-entitled harpies to ruin the fun for everyone else.

Politically Correct - A method of controlling and dictating public speech and thought. source

There have been many recent examples of public figures who've lost their jobs because of an angry mob that's whipped up a social media frenzy to place pressure on a company to fire them.

Social justice warrior (SJW) is a pejorative term for an individual who promotes socially progressive views, including feminism, civil rights, and multiculturalism, as well as identity politics. The accusation that somebody is an SJW carries implications that they are pursuing personal validation rather than any deep-seated conviction and engaging in disingenuous arguments. source

Some companies have even started adding a place on job applications for an applicant to list their trigger warnings. How far is this bullshit going to continue and why are we as a culture playing into this?

They assimilate this SJW nonsense into their company culture because they think this politically correct speech policing is current, hip, and representative of most young people. It isn't. That's why when a company or brand produces a TV commercial, for instance, with this nonsense, it receives enormous backlash and nothing but dislikes on YouTube.

Over the last decade we have seen a number of costly business decisions made for no other reason than a minority of people, the "politically correct" crowd, otherwise known as the "perpetually outraged" crowd, screamed the loudest over some type of imaginary and manufactured offense.

Since it is December, we'll start with the bad business decisions on the part of retailers to start using the term "Happy Holidays" rather than Merry Christmas in their advertisements, calling a Christmas tree and "Holiday" tree, or disallowing their employees to wish shoppers a Merry Christmas, insisting they say "Happy Holidays."

Many businesses discovered the hard way, through the loss of business, that Americans as a whole, are not as "tolerant" regarding the war on Christmas, then the loudmouths trying to erase Christ from Christmas, in the very month that Christ's birth is celebrated

This brings us to a bigger issue of how companies are making very bad business decisions to appease a minority of snowflakes that manage to find something to be offended over, daily.

Recently a Cleveland radio station, WDOK, decided to remove the 1944 Christmas classic, 'Baby It's Cold Outside," from their song playlist because a listener called in and complained the song was not appropriate in 2018 and the #MeToo era.

One host claimed "It wasn't really our decision. It's the decision of our listeners." According to the Fox News' report, the station claims they took a poll on their website and the majority of their listeners voted in favor of removing the song, but those results were not posted to the website.

The station did put out a public poll on the Star 102 Cleveland Facebook page, asking their listeners "Should we play 'Baby, It's Cold Outside' during the holiday season?" Out of more than 8.4 thousands votes, an overwhelming 94 percent of their listeners said "Yes, it's a classic," with only 6 percent saying "No, it's inappropriate." source

This kind of bullshit where a minority where the host claimed "It wasn't really our decision. It's the decision of our listeners.", is not really listening to the majority of its listeners. They are just reacting to a couple of pissed off people who are clearly reading their own interpretation into the song based on their skewed view of the social injustices they feel their world is heaping upon them. The station is being shredded in the comment section of that poll, with the overwhelming majority of the nearly 1,000 comments tearing into them for allowing six percent of their snowflake listeners to force them to remove the Academy Award winning song from their line up.

This is just a Christmas song people. Nothing to freak out about. What concerns me is when these small groups of over sensitive people start affecting social changes from companies that have the potential to really divide and hurt people, costing them jobs and threatening their families because they were offended by a word they used, which, more often than not, was not used with the intention the person who was offended read into it.

Politically Correct - The laws of moral and ethical relativism; all systems of cultures and thought are equal in value, stemming from a perceived guilt from white liberals who believe that the Western Civilization is the root of all evil to the exclusion of all else. source

Trigger warnings and microaggressions are part of a social justice warrior's self-diagnosed PTSD. It gives them power over you because you have to watch every word you say for fear of walking on an eggshell that will send them into an apoplectic seizure. Given what we're seeing on college campuses right now, this isn't that far away from being an accurate portrayal.

When I walk on eggshells they tend to get crushed. End of story.

In Germany, one town decided to introduce ground level traffic lights because addicted smartphone users are always looking down with their heads buried in their phone. It's a sad state of affairs that people will sacrifice their safety and the safety of others just to remain connected on social media.

The lack of real meaning beyond frivolous and shallow social media interactions and short-lived dopamine hits from notifications is sadly part of our connected culture and for some young people addicted to their smartphones, there seems to be an emotional vacuum that they're trying to fill with a narcissistic need for personal validation and constant positive reinforcement from social media engagement.

This is the most disturbing part of current internet culture. The moral grandstanding, hyper-offense taking, the pearl-clutching and attempts to assert one's moral superiority over someone else who's been deemed a wrong-thinker. The people who engage in these speech policing activities are desperate to signal their moral virtue and the way they do this is by identifying someone as being racist or bigoted and denouncing them publicly so as to make themselves seem superior.

Social Justice Warrior - A person who uses the fight for civil rights as an excuse to be rude, condescending, and sometimes violent for the purpose of relieving their frustrations or validating their sense of unwarranted moral superiority. The behaviors of Social justice warriors usually have a negative impact on the civil rights movement, turning away potential allies and fueling the resurgence of bigoted groups that scoop up people who have been burned or turned off by social justice warriors. source

They feel especially vindicated when they have the backing of their peers and when they get to speak on behalf of a minority group, even going so far as to be offended for that minority group. By claiming someone else is an unclean heretic, they make themselves seem morally clean by comparison. It's such an odious tactic, especially when there's literally zero effort required and no social cost in doing so. They get to sit in the comfort of their couch and Tweet how awful someone else is and receive positive validation, therefore, feeling like a better human being.

Social Justice Warrior - A person who causes problems for normal people through protest and constant nagging because they can't accept that life isn't fair. source

Given how addictive some people are to social media and their smartphones and how they crave this validation, it was inevitable that moral grandstanding would develop in this way because it's the fastest and most reliable way of receiving the dopamine reward they desperately seek.

Eventually, an angry mob can threaten people with violence making it very unsafe for them and their families, prompting the offender to do something they should never do in these situations; issue a public apology. Of course, apologies are never good enough in these situations. They will always backfire and the mob will never be satisfied.

Social Justice Warrior - An individual that is defined by their constant attacking or addressing anything they find inappropriate, offensive, or triggering in their eyes. People that promote and address the social issues that truly matter on social media should be applauded, but social justice warriors are in a league of their own. They repeatedly bash any content (even if its innocent) and aggressively call for the downfall of the person who carelessly offended them. source

No matter what they say it will be twisted into more fodder for the hypersensitive to use against them. This is why apologies are another waste of time, not only because they don't want to hear them, but because you're not dealing with logical, rational people, you're dealing with an angry rabble. So, you're wasting your time. They will always try to hold you to an impossibly high moral standard that no one could ever hope to reach.

Should your free speech end where someone else's feelings begin? One of the ten commandments of internet usage should be, is this really worth freaking out over? Usually, it's not. Isn't the internet such a warm, loving, and happy place?

Often when a public figure apologizes after making a joke not meant to be offensive, their apology afterward is basically taken as blood in the water and will only encourage the angry mob to completely destroy that person's life. If they resist giving an apology they get even more offended you would have the audacity to stand your ground. Never apologize. You can't appease a mob that's devoid of compassion and isn't looking to forgive you. They're looking to destroy you.

Great post. It seems people are becoming less responsible, more ideological and less adept at critical thinking. No doubt society is and has been engineered this way. Suggestible and vulnerable people have been addicted to the very devices used to control them. The skilfully presented truffles of 'wisdom' found in celebrity culture is often their conduit of information and opinion, sometimes subconsciously, sometimes consciously. The millennials have grown up in a post 9/11 world of increasing surveillance and monitoring for their 'safety' in this 'increasingly dangerous world.' They have also been subjected to a battery of brainwashing that has left many of them seemingly occupying a different planet to their elders. I hope enough of the elders are able to wake up these youngsters before too long but it seems many elders have also fallen prey and are asleep themselves or afraid to speak.

The lack of critical thinking is epidemic as is the lack of attention span. How can we talk to people about these things if they can't even carry on a conversation beyond a kneejerk reaction for more than a few minutes? It's like talking to a brainwashed child.

It always boils down to acceptance of personal responsibility in the end and there seems to be no easy way to inform people without them choosing to be offended. Unfortunately more and more are being herded towards the SJW route. Most will comply to be in a majority and it is this sheep like cowardice that is hard to break through. One is unsurprisingly either seen as negative or condescending. It's easier to sling shit and hide than take responsibility. Take Jordan Peterson as an example. He talks well and backs himself with evidence but it's easier for those he constructively critisises to ignore his evidence, take offence and find a safe space rather than look in the mirror. Most aren't able to accept they've been duped and herded, choosing instead to go into denial with the head in the sand rather than face reality. Party politics plays a role IMO in that it encourages ideological thinking and closes down the critical thinking aspect. Schooling too is just brainwashing and the preparation of acceptance of ideological compliance with a rigged and essentially satanic system. No wonder most don't want to 'wake up' to reality. I'm still trying to find out how to communicate with the 'hypnotised' without them taking offence but there seems to be no polite way of doing so on an effective level yet this needs to happen if things are to change for the better.

For real. That thumbnail made me LOL and then continue to read every word.

I agree completely. It's gotten out of control.

I live where SJWs are in swarms... in a teeny tiny mountain town. It's terrifying. I keep my speech repressed for safety... and if there are any other free-thinkers in the community, they do the same. On the surface it seems there are millions of them but in actuality only a few loud ones.

I find the louder and more often something has to be screamed, the more likely it's a lie.

The truth can be whispered and those listening will hear.

Great post! Thank you!

Agreed. The louder they are they more it's BS. The same can be said about the media. When something happens in the news and all the answers of what just happened are instantly explained on every network repeatedly, it's usually safe to call bull shit. Just another form of being loud.

People get so easily offended these days about the stupidest things it makes me laugh. Like my mother used to say, "Joke 'em if they can't take a fuck."

Your mother sounds like a wise woman. 😍

I remember a time before internet, what would happen now if the internet when away ? Pretty confident I’d be just fine
