Congratulations to @cmp2020; and publicity for Steemit in a Chester County, PA newspaper

in #classical-music5 years ago (edited)

Please join me in congratulating Christopher (@cmp2020) for a fine piece of work and some well-deserved recognition.

Update [September 23, 2019]: The news article also appeared in the newspaper's print edition on Saturday, September 21.

As you may recall, my son, @cmp2020 was accepted - with three other students - into a "Young Composers' Workshop" that was run by Jennifer Nicole Campbell earlier this year and it culminated in a performance of his original composition, King Arthur, at the Brandywine River Museum of Art.

If you haven't heard it, this is a good excuse for me to link to the Youtube video again. Please listen. In my wholly unbiased opinion, I think you'll enjoy it. ; -)

Anyway, I'm putting this post up because his school district learned about the performance, interviewed @cmp2020, and wrote it up on the district's web site, which also went in a press release to the Daily Local News, a local newspaper in Chester County. What's a proud father going to do when his son gets into the newspaper? Of course I have to share the links!

So, here is the article on the web site for the West Chester Area School District:
Rustin HS Senior Shines at Young Composers Workshop

And here it is on our local newspaper's web site:
Rustin senior shines at Young Composers Workshop

Of course, @lisa.palmer and I are very proud of his accomplishment, so please go read the whole article on one of those sites, but it will especially interest the Steem community to see this brief excerpt:

If music doesn't pan out, Palmer has a back-up plan - computer science. He is passionate about blockchain technology, the record-keeping technology behind bitcoin. He actively writes blog posts on Steemit, a social media platform that rewards users with cryptocurrency for their content. (I added the bold.)

So the Steem blockchain also got a little bit of a nod from this activity.

In closing, I'd like to thank Ms. Campbell for organizing this event, and once again ask you to join me in congratulating @cmp2020 and the other amazing young composers who also had their work performed.

I wasn't aware of your so close relation to be honest. I follow your son from the very first time I spotted his posts and listened to his stuff.
Well I have not enough musical knoledge to judge the technical work that's behind his creations and keep me appart from publicly express my opinion related to technical aspects of his compositions.
But I love music ( and have some musical studies ) that allow me to appreciate his creations and interpretations ( also the variations ) and enjoy them which I do too much.
The last achievement has been a great one as I could see on his related post but I was shy to tell him how much I liked it to not appear as flattering with ignorance.
As a self student of piano and drums I know how much effort , time and passion one must put on music to get things done, not to mention to reach the level your son actually has which is light years away from my position.
You can be proud of your son, he's doing a great job and in my humble opinion if he persists in his way he will for sure get the recognition he deserves.
Steemit it's not being the best site for recognition of classical music but maybe with time and patience it will...hope that at least.
Was great from your son to mention us on his interview, amazing!
Congrats @remlaps you're fortunate to have such an amazing son.
Love n'hugs
Pd: We here in Europe cannot access to https://www.dailylocal.com due to our General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) it says when trying to follow the links...

Thanks for thee comment! We're very proud of his hard work.

That's crazy that you can't get to the daily local's web site. We always hear about the Great Firewall of China, but I was unaware that Europe might have one, too... I hope you were able to read the article on the school district's site. It's the same story on both sites.

It was my pleasure!
Yes I could access the School site without any problem and read the cute article they did, Steemit mention included 😉
