The fortress of Rasnov

Rasnov Fortress is the fortified ensemble located on the limestone hill, located in the south of Rasnov in Brasov County, one of the best preserved fortified ensembles in Transylvania. The oldest structures preserved to date date back to the 14th century, probably on the site of the wooden fortification raised by the Teutonic Knights at the beginning of the 19th century. XIII. [2]

Râşnov Citadel controlled through its strategic position access to Transylvania from the Râşnoavei Valley. Given the importance of the mountain passers to the South Carpathian territories, Bran's road was also supervised by the military after the banishment of the Teutonic Knights, the Hungarian royalty having entrusted the fortification of Râşnov to the Knights of the Order of the Holy Cross. They were subordinated either to the Szeklers' committee or to the Transylvanian voivode. Until the transfer of the customs from Rucar to Bran and the construction of the Bran fortress to protect the royal customs at the end of the 14th century, the Râşnov fortress was the first fortification near Bran's road after entering Transylvania.

In 1427 Emperor Sigismund of Luxembourg visited the fortress of Râşnov, which he passed in the administration of the local community, which granted him the rank of fair
