Toy Story 4, a fun adventure

in #aaa5 years ago

Toy Story was considered unanimously as one of the best trilogies in film history. No one would have complained if the story of Woody, Buzz and the rest had ended in Toy Story 3.

But it should be noted that Toy Story 4 is a remarkable adventure with many fun moments and that makes sense of its existence by recovering a character from the past to focus the story more than ever on Woody's character. In return it never reaches the level of its predecessors, but it is that four miracles in a row was also too much to ask.
All the previous films in the franchise based their argument on the need for some sort of rescue and Toy Story 4 was not going to be an exception. It is in the small deviations of the formula and in the way of adapting it to each specific story where each of them shone with its own light and here the change from Andy to Bonnie is a different criterion when choosing which toys you prefer and there the Woody's role has clearly lost relevance.
In fact, he himself soon takes on the role of protector of Bonnie's new toy, a peculiar creation of her who believes that her place is in the trash, which causes many funny moments and also a song by Randy Newman very much below the mythical There is a friend in me. All this is aimed at the emergence of that rescue that serves to make the film address the issues that really interest him, partly presented by his wonderful prologue.
The film offers a reflection not very deep but juicy enough to give more entity to the adventure. All of this is seasoned with a great squad of new secondary characters that encourages the show on various fronts. The main one is the comic contribution, although they allow situations in which the extraordinary visual display of the film looks even more wonderful than usual.
However, everything has a price and the big victim of Toy Story 4 is Buzz. On the one hand it loses presence in a clear way with respect to previous deliveries, but it is also that the writers have chosen to lower their intelligence with a comic purpose.
The other striking aspect is that everything revolves more than ever around Woody. As such, there are few hits to put on the film, but that unit of the toy group is missing, reinforcing the idea that it was not necessary to prolong its history.
Beyond that, ‘Toy Story 4’ has a refined animation that keeps the vital signs of the franchise but adjusting them to the great evolution that computer animation has had since the first installment. Some scene as shocking as part of the landfill of the third installment may be missing, but it is amazing how everything flows, knowing how to even adapt it to the specific needs of the new characters.
In addition, Pixar gives the ideal way to close the story by exciting the viewer respecting the speech he had been dropping until then.
In short, Toy Story 4 is a very good film that has fun and excitement, but it is not a jewel at the level of previous deliveries. There are small details less achieved and it never transcends enough to feel like a necessary addition to the saga.
