My Nightmare

I am a lost soul
Wondering the wilderness
Struggling to find the joy
I’ve yearned to know.

A red figure leads me
An abandoned homestead
Rattled and torn from
The elements of weather.

Despair, forsaken, alone
Intrigue calls me into the
Dilapidated interior of what
Used to be called a home.

Dark, dreary, colorless
Like the inner depths of my soul
Screaming inwardly
to be set free from the loneliness
Of isolation and fear.

A two story once alive
With the sounds of family
Happily playing between her walls
So joyful you could almost
Sense the once happy place.

I’m not frightened
As I follow the red being
A flight of stairs
My white gown barely gracing
The steps as I proceed down.

A scream of terror
I belt out in fear
For the happiness once
So filling in the walls
Of a fallen home
There hanging are the hopes
The dreams of what bygone
Years have destroyed.

Wailing in turmoil
I turn to the red figure
Who once graced my side
Now gone
I’m alone
Left to ponder the emptiness
Surrounding my intimate presence.

I bellow out in pain
For the loss of life
Once so happy replenishing the walls
Of the empty house I sit within.
