RE: Why Abortion Is Murder

in #abortion7 years ago

I think this is such an important topic, and thanks for posting your opinion on this. In the US, this is a hugely contentious issue as you everyone pretty much knows already.

You've presented a beautiful opinion about why you believe in what you believe, about the human spirit. I think your opinion is very important and special on this topic, and so I am compelled to ask more questions from the opposing side, if you don't mind.

My opinion is not completely formed on this topic, but I do have many questions and ideas about it. One of my first ideas is about independence vs dependence of the fetus on it's mother. Any woman who becomes pregnant now has a developing human inside of them, which is completely factual from a scientific perspective (I hope everyone agrees on this). So, then the discussion goes back to my posited point about dependence. I think that because the fetus is completely dependent on the mother for sustaining its development and nourishment during pregnancy, it is completely up to the mother to choose whether or not she wants to keep sustaining that life inside of her. Based on your argument, I believe you would NOT agree that a woman should have complete say over her own body and what is inside of it, is that correct? If that is correct, do you believe a woman relinquishes that right when she becomes pregnant?

I greatly appreciate your answer to these specific questions, as I think you are speaking honestly and from your heart. So I do not hope to create any tension, as this is a very important and sensitive topic.

Thanks for your patience and understanding in having this discussion! I'm just very curious what your response is to the questions above.

I'd like to ask you to consider a couple of things.

  1. Toddlers are also totally dependent on others for their ongoing existence, too. I doubt you think it's OK to kill them if you want just because they're inconvenient. :-)
  2. The baby is not his mother's property. He is a human being who has come into existence by the handiwork of God. We do not have the right or authority to take his life.
  3. The body inside the mother's body is not her body.
