On VOTING BOTS and SELF-VOTINGS

Dear Steemians,

In my last post, I showed my support for more discussions on how, if at all, you would like to have things on Steemit changed.

Personally, I am strongly against the use of so-called voting bots.
Also, I don’t support self-voting approaches.

As I have explained in an earlier post, I am convinced that these methods are not compatible with the principles of Steemit.

The COMMUNITY is supposed to evaluate the quality and value of individual contributions, and steem, as a reward for these contributions, is supposed to be allocated according to these COLLECTIVE assessments.

Let me refer to the Steemit White Paper to emphasize things:

On page 6, it says:

“The challenge faced by Steem is deriving an algorithm for scoring individual contributions that most community members consider to be a fair assessment of the subjective value of each contribution.”

Further, on page 16:

“The actual distribution will depend upon the voting patterns of users, but we suspect that the vast majority of the rewards will be distributed to the most popular content.”

In my opinion, both voting bots and self-votings may ruin this system and the platform in the long run.

I am glad there are dedicated users who try to combat exploitative behavior on this platform.
Let’s hope for things to get settled in the future!
