The ottoman naval expedition to Aceh 1568–1569

in 1568, selim II Sultan of the Ottoman Empire ordered that ships be sent to Aceh, Kurtoğlu Hızır Reis is an Admiral-in-Chief of the Indian Ocean Fleet based in Red Sea Suez, with other homeports in Aden and Basra. In 1568 he sailed with the force of 22 ships carrying soldiers, military equipment and other equipment, and visited Aden, Djibouti, Muscat, Hormuz, Debal, Surat, Janjira, Lanka (Sri Lanka) and then arrived in Aceh in 1569, an incident historicly marks the easternmost territorial expansion of the Ottoman Empire, recorded by its Portuguese rival, Fernão Mendes Pinto. At the same time, the Ottoman Empire told Portugal that Atjeh was from now on in the Ottoman territory and any attack on Aceh would be considered as an attack on the Ottoman Empire.
Aceh effectively remained as an Ottoman protectorate until the end of the 18th century, and allies of the Ottoman Empire until 1904.
