ACHIEVEMENT 4 TASK: APPLYING MARK DOWNS BY @barna.uzoigwesteemCreated with Sketch.

INTRODUCTION

This very task is an important one because it is designed to teach me the basic mark downs and how to use them.
The use of these markdown tools is to ensure that as a newbie, I know each of them, how they are used and the possible outcome of their usage.
For a post or any write-up to attract meaningful reads, it must be well arranged (formatted) to suit the reading pleasure of the targeted readers and this can be easily achieved with the use of the basic syntax and other related commands that can help to achieve this.
There are so many writing tricks and tutorial guides on markdowns that I have taken time to study from the newbies' notice board as complied by @katerinaramm, thanks to her for taking out time to bring the newbies like me up to speed on the important markdowns via her compilation.
I will write down my understanding of a few of them, because there are lots of them to work with but I'll focus on five (5).

  • HEADING OR HEADLINES

Headings or Headlines are used to direct your readers on how you intend to arrange the elements or important parts that make up your post.

Headlines can be created using the hashtag symbol and leaving a space before typing the topic you intend as you headline.

It is important to note that font size of your headline can be determined by the number of the hashtag symbols before you type your topic. As the number of the hashtag symbol increases, the size of the headline decreases, and vice versa, if the number decreases, the headline size increases.

For example, If I want to use a headline titled "My Introduction", I simply use the hashtag symbol and leave a space before typing the title and it will appear as written below;

My Introduction

I can reduce Headline size by increasing the number of the hashtag symbols before typing the title;

My Introduction

My Introduction

My Introduction

There is another way of creating a Headline, but this applies only for Headlines 1 and 2.
You can use the dash sign (-) or the equal sign (=), both, three times below your title to achieve your headlines 1 and 2, only, this time, without the use of the hashtag

For example;

My Introductory Post on Steemit

My Introductory Post on Steemit

A Headline can be aligned in the center, formatted to appear in italics and also have a strikethrough

These can be achieved as follows;

To align a headline centre, simply type "# < center>", followed by your proposed Headline.

For example,

My Introductory Post on Steemit.

To make a headline appear in italics, simply type the back dash, followed by the hashtag symbol, then your headline title and the back dash again...

For example,
#My Introductory Post on Steemit

You can also make a strikethrough line on your headline, depending on the demand of your write-up.

TEXT

Text is the actual word or words that make up a written work. In our case, the words that make up a post can also be termed "text".
Therefore, when typing a post, a writer can arrange his/her write-up in a presentable manner that should attract interests of keen readers.
The only way to achieve this is to justify your text while typing your post.
To justify text, type < div class="text-justify" >, then give 2line spaces and type your post, give another 2line spaces and type "< /div>"

See example below

On behalf of Ukwa Royal Heritage, may I humbly invite you to participate in our upcoming event "UKWA CARNIVAL 2021" . The event started in 2017 and is scheduled to take place from 28th to 30th, July, 2021 at Obehie, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.

The above text is a brief invitation I used to show an example using the "justify" syntax.
Without the justify syntax, the text will appear with an irregular or inconsistent alignment.

Aligning Text into 2 Cells.

This is done where it is necessary for you to input texts in double columns separated from one another on the same page.

For example,

His Royal Majesty, the Ise II, of OKEIKPE Ancient Kingdom and the entire UKWA People are using this medium to invite all and sundry to this year's epoch making event.
On behalf of the Ukwa Royal Dynasty, may I humbly invite you to participate in our upcoming event tagged "UKWA CARNIVAL 2021". The event started in 2017 and is scheduled to take place from 28th to 30th, July, 2021 at Obehie, in Ukwa West Local Government Area of Abia State.

How to add 'Subscript' and 'SuperScript'

A subscript is a figure, symbol or letter written below the writing line of an essay or a post, and vice versa, as the case would be for a superscript, which is written above the normal line.

To add a subscript, simply use the command "sub" enclosed with <>

For example, 4 base 5 in mathematical language can be represented thus;
45

To add superscript, type the superscript command "sup" and enclose it with <>.

For example, 10 raised to the power of 8 can be written thus;
108

CODE

A code can convert an information in a post into another form. A known information can be shortened or even become a secret code with the use of codes.
Adding codes to a post can be necessary at times especially where you want to point out a unique info. It can be achieved in two ways;

  • by using a back tick (`) before and another one after the requisite syntax
    For example; Q.E.D.

  • Another way of adding codes is by using the 'code' command before and after the information, also enclosed with <>
    For example, 042

QUOTES

These are references from another person's research or writing a phrase from what someone else said.
Quotes are represented in a post by typing this ">" in front of the phrase that is meant to be shown as a quote.

For example;

"to err is human"

CONCLUSION

I will stop with the five markdowns explained so far, but will keep studying and learning their various applications as well as the other ones not explained.
