The key is stretching/warming up before you start - you could do serious damage if you skip without prepping! Skipping along to your favourite songs also helps, I started at 3 minutes which was painful but now I've gone up to 5 so like you say, our bodies can take on more than we think!
I tried nonstop skipping for two minutes today. My heart rate disagreed with me. Lol. But I know with constant practice - and stretching - I'll get to 5 minutes nonstop. Cheers to stronger rope skipping!
