Aaaand.... 5k run completed. To be honest, I was a little nervous after I had shown up. I obviously didn't recognize anyone there and there were some guys well above what I'm capable of. Needless to say the environment was completely different than one where you're by yourself.

After getting to the starting line, I overheard a guy talking to others, asking about their experiences and it turns out it was their first 5k as well. They weren't sure if they were up to handle it but I encouraged them a bit before the race started.

The guy who was asking questions and I talked for a little bit, getting to know each others experience with running. He was a pretty cool and laid back person from the sound of things.

Starting off the race, i was going way too fast. I believe i was running somewhere around 6:30/mi before I realized it and gradually slowed down my pace. On the plus side, I held 5th place pretty well. But just for the first mile. I managed to find a good middle ground around 7:12/mi though and went to maintain that as long as I could. When I hit the 2 mile mark my legs were burning a bit as if I hadn't rested enough in the last two days. Even with music I had doubt for the first time in my head but ignored it and kept pushing.

Towards the end, at least two people had slowed down to a walk and I ended up at 8th or 10th place I believe. I didn't hear what they were calling out with my earbuds in as I crossed the line, but I know not that many had finished with how many passed me.

This whole run was just personal best smashes for me. Since I had a strong start, I knocked a few seconds off my best mile time coming from a 7:12 to 7:10. Not much, but I'll take it.

And like I had promised myself... sub 23 minutes!

Seeing myself around 2.6 or 2.7 miles 18 minutes in, I had lost a bit of hope. I knew if I didn't pick up the pace somewhere I was going to come up short. All I did at that point was change my music and focused on the goal, just moving forward. And it paid off. 19 seconds lower than my pb for my 5k. Now I have something to look forward to beating.

and here are my splits for each km. I assumed I could only afford one 4:40/km but this run told me I could afford two as long as I kept my pace up earlier in the run.

Sadly, the camera is still acting up so I wasn't able to take pictures of the festivities that took place after the race. There were plenty of cookout spots that smelled and tasted delicious though.

That's all for now. I feel accomplished I beat another goal and I'm looking forward to taking down the next.
