Common reasons you’re gaining weight at work
Tired of people telling you every day that ‘You’ve gotten fat’ and at every function whether it’s at a friend’s party or a family gathering? You may absolutely blame it on the food, which is very true in most cases. But you still wonder if you have started a diet, why and how come you’re still ‘there’. And you seem to realize your weight is only constant.
One thing to remember is that as easy as it is to gain weight, it is double hard to lose it and get back in to a fitter position you were either in before or you wanted to be like.
People usually ignore the fact that their work routine, activity schedule as well as fun and sports time doesn’t only have a great impact on your various ultimately concluding matters but other dynamics too. Weight isn’t only confined to one specific reason which everybody is aware of; food. Rather, several factors are involved in this case. Here are some of them:
1- You sit more than standing or actually working
At first, this might seem like an absurd heading. But as you dig deeper, you’ll actually find out why and how this is basically the truth.
Say you took a light meal in breakfast which is even according to your diet, either avocado on a toast with a glass of milk. Or cereals. Or even fried eggs with oil drenched out from it. You’re happy about your decision, you go to work in a joyous mood because obviously who doesn’t feel light and exultant after a light breakfast ensuring they’re going towards the road of their ideal weight.
So, you start working which is basically composed of sitting all day long on a chair in front of a computer with short lunch and bathroom breaks. Scientifically proven, you get hungry when you’re indulged in depth in doing something. So you take a heavy meal in lunch, sit again for the next few hours. And it’s amazing how you don’t get to move (not your choice, though) and still wonder why you have gained weight even though you took light breakfast and lunch!
Theoretically, you are what you eat. And in your case, you eat and sit all day long, the fat keeps storing in your body hence you gain weight.
2- Your long routes to work
This is pretty much related to sitting again. Before you sit at your desk for hours in your office or workplace, you basically drive a car to get to it and back home. If you use public transport, your chances of gaining weight become a little less as you either walk to the terminals and stops or ride a bike which eventually burns calories.
3- Stressful conditions
Now, we’re not saying everyone’s addicted to eating a little when it comes to evaporating our stress but one way or another, stress is proven to be weight-gaining. Especially at workplaces.
4- Back to back parties
Sometimes it so happens that there are back to back parties at the office. And by that, we mean it’s either a celebration or all, or it’s someone’s birthday. And who doesn’t like to go crazy on cakes?! It’s a piece of cake, anyway. Or someone just brings in donuts for all and you are obliged to eat them obviously because you’re human. Hence, you gain weight easily.
5- Others eating customs
You may not have observed this, but if your coworker or partner is constantly chewing on candies and gum, you’ll ultimately fall for it, too. It’s just another easy way to gain weight. Your coworker may not even know he’s an influencer of food on you. But you would pick his eating habits as fast as you ought to pick other good habits.
6- Your laziness for stairs
If you’re on a 4th floor, there’s a 100% chance you’ll take the elevator. The only time you’d prefer not taking it is if it’s out of order. Otherwise, calories are burnt heavily by climbing up and down the stairs but since you’ve chosen the elevator, your chances of actually getting a fat increase to double.
7- Your unhealthy use of halts
You eat and watch a short show or talk to your colleagues after finishing your meal instead of relaxing up before and exercising a little. Your use of devices such as computers, laptops, tabs, iPads and especially phones lead you to a slighter tendency towards exercising every day to such an extent that you become lethargic and sluggish enough not to even think about exercising.
8- Long hours and night shifts
The biggest problem of night shifts and long hours is everything mentioned above. You use more digital devices, you feel hungrier, you eat more food especially sweetened one at night (which obviously causes more fat in your body), you don’t have time to work out hence you feel languid and hassled and frazzled; eventually gain weight.
