Watering place "Pozo Azul" in Los Palmares | Explore(ing)

"Pozo Azul" is the popular name of several of the water ponds that descend the mountains in San Pedro del Río (one of the tourist gems of Táchira State, in Venezuela). They are also known as a natural spa because of the abundance and variety of natural pools, waterfalls and streams that this place has.

The slope that supplies water to all these wells is between the El Morrachón hill (which is recognized by the peculiar volcano form that it has) and the village Los Palmares in the Ayacucho Municipality. The route from the village is simple but arduous, you have to walk through a concrete rural path and paddocks until you find the river, whose name is Quebrada Grande. Then trek along the river's edge and cross it several times in a descending way towards the sulphurous waters.

The place has, in all its route, more than forty water ponds in which you can swim and many waterfalls. So it is ideal for hiking and venturing. This time I went with a group of friends to explore the well "Las Adjuntas", this is the point where two waterfalls join and it has a depth of approximately 8mts, perfect for swimming and diving.

The sunlight and the water create an amazing contrast of colors that vary between blue, yellow and green. Very close to there at about 200mts the cold crystalline waters that come from the top of the mountain are achieved with sulfur mineral waters product of aquifer filtrations in the subterranean layers of the earth, in this place we spent the afternoon and it was the final stop of our route.

Táchira State in Venezuela is full of incredible corners where the adventure awaits. You just gotta go out and look for them!
