The Northern Lights - Lapland

A few years ago i took a wilderness safari to Lapland, I'd done adventure trekking in East and North Africa in both cold and hot climates but never anything a cold as the February temperature in Lapland.

With average daily temperatures of between Minus 38 to 45 degree it was to say the least a shock to the system.

I found the biggest problem was the unbelievable pain you'd have to go through taking off your outter gloves to take a photograph, even just for a minute it was agony, so every possible photograph opportunity came with the question is it really worth the pain!!

The place is totally amazing, you can easy go a full day covering vast areas on Snowmobiles or Husky Sleds without seeing another person, it really is a true wilderness and stunningly beautiful with it.

For dog lovers the Husky Sleds are a must, the bond you build with these fantastic animals is awesome, they are loving and affectionate and their stamina is out of this world, they just keep on going.

And when i say keep on going i mean it, these guys go to the toilet on the run, which is a big shock at first when you see the tails go up and the sh*t is heading towards you !!

Amazing holiday, one I'll never forget, and to top it off we were treated an unbelievable display of the Northern Lights which lasted for ages.

Love the images Jeff. Wife and kids desperate to go there. Think I might add it to the goal list for 2018.

Its amazing John, but very cold, i had frost bite which i suffered from for nearly 2 months, couldnt stop taking my gloves off to take photos!! You need a voice activated shutter.

Those temperatures do sound extreme but it must have been a great experience. Defo on the to do list
