Tackling the Via Ferrata, Honister Slate Mine, UK - The original miner's path to the top of the mountain!

Somewhere deep in the lake district of the United Kingdom, there are many hidden secrets. Mine passages and shafts litter the terrain, hidden by overgrowth and lost in time.

There are however, a few less secretive attractions, and the photograph below is one that anybody who is physically fit can have a try at! Guided tours are taken up this treacherous path of iron bars, tight ropes and ladders, up the vertical faces of the mountainous region. This may even qualify for the #landscapephotography entry tomorrow :)

DON'T LOOK DOWN LUKE!

That's the original miner's path?! Oh my goodness, talk about a daily commute

Originally it would of been free climbed daily by the miners, maybe using a load of rope to tie each other together, but certainly no harness, helmet or safety clips, just a candle or carbide lamp and some big balls!
