HIGHGATE CEMETERY – LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM

Reputed as one of the most famous places in London is the legendary cemetery with 53,00 grave sites. Highgate Cemetery came to extensive public notice when disturbing report were filed about a tall man with glowing eyes and a top hat popularly dubbed ‘Highgate Vampire.’
Many claims of ghost sightings and horrible apparitions of the past have made Highgate Cemetery a mecca for horror-loving folks. Little wonder it occupies the number one positions on the list.

XUNANTUNICH - BELIZE

Xunantunich is an ancient Maya Archeological site in Western Belize, It also served as a Maya Civic ceremonial center in the Late and Terminal Classic to the Belize Valley region. Around 200, 000 inhabitants lived in Belize during this period.

‘El Castillo at Xunantunich’

The name of Xunantunich literally means ‘Stone Woman’ in the Mayan Language which refers to the ghost of a woman claimed by the local people to live the site beginning in 1892. It was also confirmed that she is dressed completely in white and has eyes glowing with red fire. She often appears in front of ‘El Castillo’, climbs the stone stairs and disappears into a stone wall. Part of the intriguing features of this woman include her traditional Mayan dress and her repetitious manner of gliding up the temple which some people believe showcased the ritualistic process of sacrifice common in ancient Mayan practice.

Taking a name from a merchant burgess (Mary King) who lived in the 17th century. Itwa partially demolished in the 18th century. The area became famous for being wrapped up in myths and urban legends with many stories of killings and haunting abounded.
Mary King’s close has been famous for haunting since the 17th century and many several paranormal investigations have been taken place. Many features of the close include a stagnant and highly polluted marsh called Nor Loch and biogas escaping into the close creating eerie lights many rumored to be the cause of spirit hauntings and hallucinations. For many years, Mary King’s close was shrouded in myths and legends but recent archeological investigations has revealed a more genuine fact about this strange site.

Generally dubbed ‘The World’s Largest Grave’ as a result of numbers of remains buried. Starting in the 18th century, the Paris Underground became one of the largest burial sites with spanning 300 kilometres (186 miles). The underground cemetery became a tourist attraction on a small scale from the 19th century, and has been open to the public on a regular basis since 1874. The catacombs are among the 14 City of Paris Museums managed by the Paris Musees since January 2013.
