The Importance of Truth

in #africa6 years ago (edited)

What is true ? why ? how confident am I of anything being true ?

These are questions that keep popping in my mind every time I encounter a situation nowadays, no matter what it is. let us call it a healthy dose of skepticism.

Why be skeptic ? I think the metaphor of a building here will be adequate. Indeed, a building needs a solid foundation before claiming any inch above ground. Being skeptical is, in a way, necessary to establish the foundations on which we build this life of ours.

Being from West Africa, I have noticed many ways of thinking that, though inherent to the cultural matrix of societies, are impractical when put to the test of reason.

This also applies to other societies I have had the chance to experience, but in a different way. I believe the Indian yogi Sadghuru puts it best:

For animals, stomach empty = 1 problem; Stomach Full = 0 problems
For humans, stomach empty = 1 problem; stomach Full = 1,000 problems

The question is , aren't we creating all these "problems" due to the fact that we built and defined the foundation of our human life wrong ? Have we focused on seeking truth instead of being victims to a wide array of compulsions ?
