Migrating for safety | Cameroon is in war with itself

in #africa6 years ago (edited)

In the past exodus was done by youths who migrate to big cities in search of jobs and better living conditions (greener pastures) but in the last one month, Anglophone Cameroon that is the northwest and southwest regions have witnessed the greatest exodus in recent times which is gradually reshaping the population structure of the two regions. Many people have fled the two Anglophone regions to francophone areas of the country not in search for greener pastures but in search of safety. The old, youths and children can be seen in their numbers around every bus station in town trying to buy bus tickets these days.

The population says they are running for the fear of what I called the unknown. The unknown, which will happen come 7th of October 2018. The 7th is the day Cameroonians will go to the polls to elect a new president. Many families fear that this day may be one of the bloodiest days (God forbid) in Cameroon history due to the current sociopolitical crisis plaguing the country. Many families have now migrated to seek refuge with other families and friends in francophone areas.

Even though the positive side of migration has paved the way for development, enhanced process of industrializations, serve as means of livelihood, the swift migration happening now in Anglophone Cameroon has greater negative consequences on the place of departure and destination. The places of destinations which are major cities like Yaoundé, Douala and Bafoussam all in the francophone regions will witness increase in natural resource depletion, environmental pollution, earning disparities, idleness, urban expansion, social unrest, theft, population crowding. Also with this massive influx of people into nearby cities will open the door for the increase of unwanted sexual transmissible diseases especially on the side of women, as a result of street livings.

To stop this swift exodus ongoing the government has placed a ban to prevent people from leaving the two regions promising that their safety is assured but this seems not to be effective as more and more people leave these two regions each day in their numbers.

This sad situation does not have a fast solution. Which is so bad. My friends have been killed, the others are really scared or running away. Is there actually a way how we can assist to help to push botch sides in dialogue?

It is too sad that people need to leave their hometowns in order to seek for a better place or at least safe. I see this happening in many countries and it is becoming a major problem worldwide specially for the impact in the environment.

yeah its really a sad situation. pray things don't get worse in the days ahead.

It's so sad to hear that! Africa has enough problems without another bloodshed coming in the nearest future!

Resteemed because none of this has reached audience via German media so far.
There are more than a few Cameroonians living here but as the are not as many as the Arab, Turkish people or Romanians they seem not to matter.

Thank you for the resteemed.. I hope with this the world will hear our story and come to our aid

Its really sad to see how your country is suffering for so many years now and all because of corrupt governments. I can tell you that those bad politicians are all over the world destroying peoples life. Stop voting for any governments politician and choose the path of self sustainable living. With our current technology we don't need anybody to rule over us we are independent and free people of the world!

Wish I could wave a magic wand and make this stop. This is so crazy. Never thought something like this could happen in Cameroon.

I wish the exist a magic wand too... But God is in control

I fear the unknown for nobody knows what the future holds for us. In as much as being here is dangerous, sometimes i fear that moving out of here may be more dangerous. However, these people have no choice and i think traveling out may be their option for now but i really fear the unknown
