Organic agriculture in India
An Indian state of Sikkim became unique not only in India but in the whole world due to a radical experiment: all the farms should go all-organic. This decision was taken by the government which banned pesticides in the state.
The use of pesticides had a deteriorating effect on the environment in Sikkim: rivers became polluted and soil lost fertility. Also, the rate of cancer increased in industrial farming areas. Pesticide residue was found in the fish, vegetables, and fruit.
All these factors made the leaders change the situation for the better.
