The Ávila National Park protects a portion of the popular mountain ranges named Cordillera de la Costa Central situated in Venezuela's central-northern region. The park conveniently sits in the center portion of the mountain ranges. The highest elevation of the area is two thousand seven hundred and sixty-five meters above sea level owning the name of Pico Naiguata. The park boasts a rich diversity of flora and fauna. There are over one hundred species of butterflies, around one hundred and twenty species of mammals, thirty species of reptiles, twenty species of amphibians, and five hundred species of birds. Out of several species of birds, there are 9 such species which are endemic to Venezuela along with three species that are threatened. Querrequerre (Cyanocorax yncas) is one of the most colorful bird specimens that the park features. Additionally, there are over eighteen hundred species of plants from various taxonomic groups that one can observe while visiting the place. Various such species of plants are endemic to the park while plenty are endemic to the mountain range.

For the outdoor enthusiasts that visit the park, there are several adventure-filled trails to take. Ranging from easier low-leveled routes to various technically complex ones, the park features a trail for all. Some of the most renowned trails include Los Venados, El Vivero, Papelón, Cachimbo, Lomas del Cuño, La Julia, Piedra del Indio, Pico Oriental, Cabeza de Elefante, Sabas Nieves, Los Pinos, Rancho Grande, Miguel Delgado, El Paraíso, Picacho, Lagunazo, Pico Occidental, and Pico Naiguatá. El Ávila is also known as the heart of the city as it serves a number of purposes for the citizens of the same. Most important of all is navigation.

The park is home to the world's longest cable ride which you can experience during your visit. If adventure-filled activities are what interest you, then the place has ample to offer including activities like biking, camping, running, rock climbing, and zip-lining. The hills of the mountain range boast a number of pleasing restaurants including La Chivera, El Jardín de Luna, Granja Natalia, El Hotel Humboldt, Casa Pakea, Le Galipanier, and Tarahumara. You can enjoy dining at any of these while out on your trip. Each year, in December, the "Cruz de Navidad" is lighted up which can be seen from quite far distances.
