AMD It will give a jump to 7 nanometers CPUs and GPUs in 2019 with architecture 'Zen 2'
While Intel continues to suffer, and much, to reach 10 nanometers, so much so that it has delayed again this 2018, AMD continues at an unstoppable pace with ads that fall very well to consumers and probably not very well in Intel.
Dr. Lisa Su, CEO of AMD, confirmed to investors that tests of the 'Zen 2' architecture under 7 nanometers have started and will be launched in 2019.
AMD goes for all and without mercy.
As we have already said, Cannon Lake will not be ready until 2019, so, unless Intel's plans change, this is a time when AMD is to overcome the first time its archrival of all life and the rest of the competition.
Since while Intel launches, finally, Cannon Lake under 10nm, AMD will launch the third generation of Ryzen under 7nm.
A few days ago, AMD presented us its second generation of Ryzen processors under 12nm 'Zen' architecture, which technically is an improved version of the 14nm. With 'Zen 2' they will go through the 7nm manufacturing process for the first time, which will be taken over by Global Foundries for these new Ryzen processors, which would be the third generation.
On the other hand, AMD not only goes against Intel, but also Nvidia, since right now they are testing a 'Vega 20' graphic under 7nm, only that here they have the support of TSMC, who are now leading the race in this technology. TSMC would provide this GPU with a "deep ultraviolet" lithograph, which in theory would double the bandwidth of AMD's current Vega GPUs.
Given this, it will be interesting to see if there is any response from Nvidia, who have confirmed that the end of June will present their new generation of GPUs that will arrive under the new Turing architecture under a 12 nanometer process.
On the other hand, we must pay attention to this information by AMD, since that would mean that very possibly the next generation of consoles Sony and Microsoft take advantage of this technology, ie the next PlayStation and Xbox under 7nm by 2020. No It sounds crazy.
