Happy New Years from Anarchaforko!!!!
As I type I hear a mix of cheers, fireworks and music coming from literally all sides. It’s New Years Eve and a great excuse for the locals to party it out! Some people get a bit unnerved by the constant fireworks this time of year but I consider them rings of freedom. I’m also impressed by the fireworks the poor people end up with.
One of our biggest reasons for forking Anarchapulco was to return the focus to Acapulco Bay. We try to do this in two ways: returning the Anarchists to the main bay by making one of the few rules of Anarchaforko. If it’s not in the main bay, it’s not an @anarchaforko event! The other way is to get locals involved in any way we can, from promotion to vendors to artists. We want to help stimulate the local economy by bringing the anarchists back and encouraging you to explore the city!
I’m currently waiting for midnight, for what might be my favorite event of the year. I didn’t get excited about new years until I moved here. The first year, we went to bed early and got woken up by the amazing firework display. Last year, we were able to film it, this year we drone it too! So stay tuned for footage from this year.
For now, check the video below for our Youtube upload from last year’s fireworks! There’s nothing else in the world like it and even if I ever move out of Acapulco, I will likely return for this time of year every year.
A note on Acapulco, many people have come here and cited that because they see cops and military everywhere, that Acapulco isn’t free or anarchistic. The thing is the locals especially here in Acapulco are much more inclined to find loopholes in the system despite the laws and rules in place. Freedom exists here for those who want to take it!
