July 4th

Today most Americans will celebrate with friends and family as they do every year on the 4th. What are American's celebrating though? Most decorate the house with flags and barbecue with their buddies. While sitting around they may make some grandiose statement about the good 'ol U.S. of A. being the best country in the world because "Freedom."

Is this true?

Why did the Foundling Fathers succeed anyways? Look at the Decoration of Independence for some of the answers.

"He has kept among us, in times of peace, standing armies with out the consent of our legislatures."

"For Protecting them, by a mock trial from punishment for any murders which they should commit on the inhabbitants of these states."

"For cutting off our trade with all parts of the world."

Cuba and other countries that don't play nice with our governments come to mind. Or our supposed free trade agreements. Truly free trade is just that, free. There's no agreement between nation states necessary simply two willing partners doing business with one another.

"For imposing taxes on us with out our consent."

"For depriving us, in many cases, of the benefit of trial by jury."

"He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us..."

Considering these actions in direct conflict to what the Founders mentioned in the Declaration, think again before waiving your flag proudly and celebrating your so called freedom. No State can grant you freedoms. Quite the opposite. Government is the antithesis of freedom and liberty. No matter how small a government is they will always grow. The more they grow the more liberty is lost. Our once relatively small government has ballooned into the behemoth of today in only a few hundred years.

This is no cause for celebration in my view.
