The Anarchs' Rule Book: Part-2
Part 2: "Police, Soldiers, and the Authorities"
The police have become such an integral part of what we call modern society, it’s difficult for most to comprehend a world that isn’t heavily policed. The average oligarchist gets a sense of safety from the police. This is due in some part to programming in media painting police, soldiers, and agents of the oligarchy(government) as heros.
If you zoom out however, and really view what a police officer is… It seems a bit absurd. Think about it. A person dressed in a blue, or more increasingly black suit, wearing a metallic sigil on their chest and hat, carrying firearms and sticks. That makes you feel safe? Most people like to think of themselves as rational, non-mystical, or atheistic even, though they submit wholy to humans in costumes wearing “magic” symbols on them.
You may tell yourself that you do not believe in magic. I’d say you are thinking of what magic is, in the wrong way. You can tell yourself that all the symbology you see used by the so called authorities are just simple pictures. Ask any designer, artist, or architect if they create their designs by happenstance. With the exception of what we call “modern art”, it just isn’t the case. The complex signs and symbols you see on badges, oligarchy buildings, money, flags and many other places are not random designs. The design of the sigils and uniforms are intentional. The people who had these things designed must believe they hold power, even if you believe they do not. At the most basic level, they could be thought of as holding power because the shared symbology is recognized, people accept what they stand for. In this way, they hold power and dominion over you. That is until you recognize the trick for what it is...Then the spell will be broken.
I know the oligarchists first argument asserting that sigil magic isn’t real will be; they carry the guns, this is why we must submit to them. This is true, the oligarchist concedes the police maintain control through violence or threat thereof. Yet still, many of them will also freely give up all rights to defense against violence, and even chastise others for not giving up their defense. They believe weapons don’t give them power or at least some equalization of power. This logically means, that they believe other humans are special because they wear special suits and magic symbols. It clearly isn’t because police are better qualified to use deadly weapons against other humans. The majority of police departments only require a high school diploma, while at most some require an associate's degree.
The next argument will likely be something to do with how we control crime without costumed soldiers. Certainly there will be crime when humans of various statuses and beliefs get together. This is also true, all humans can be sneaky, conniving, and even depraved. This is the Anarchs reasoning against the oligarchy(government) and centralized control, every human has the potential for evil. There are no special humans, or super humans in costumes, if you like. The oligarchs and their agents are not immune to criminality, but if you believe and support their systems, you only give them a monopoly on crime.
In this so called “advanced” and “modern” world of centralized control and violence, you may find it interesting to know that there was a time when police were not centralized in how they operated. In western societies such as the UK, policing began as constables and watchmen in local communities. This tells me that the people of old were likely far less trusting of the so called “authorities”. This is something we have lost as a society, some would believe it is a natural result of “modern” and “advanced” society to elevate above the need for violence. Logically this does make sense, unfortunately, violence is rife in the world we live. The oligarchies currently have a monopoly on violence. Fear is used to make you believe that you have more to fear from your peers than you do the oligarchy. This is self evidently untrue. Though if you spend your days watching tell-lie-vision, you will wholeheartedly believe this to be the case. This is not by random, it is by design.
Authority, is an interesting word. A common use of the word is in reference to the police. Is this even a correct way to think of the police? Let’s look at the definition:
“Someone who has the power to give orders” is the part of the definition of particular interest. If we take the term “giving orders” at its most literal level. It means to give order to something that does not have it. We have established, to be an Anarch, one must have order within their life and within the principles that they adhere to. Can a human give “order” to another that already has established his or her own order? In terms of the power of words, do you not see the word “Author” in the word “authorities”? If you submit to other human authorities, are you in a sense allowing them to be the Author of your story, instead to Authoring your own? If you take Authority over your dominion, you are the author of you own story.
A voluntary society of Anarchem must prize self defense as an essential attribute and tenet within all individuals. Individuals and decentralized collectives would need to teach various forms of defense to their children, fostering protection of freedom from a very young age. If we all exercise freedom in our ability of personal power and authority, those with ill intent will think twice before acting, as the consequences for them could be quite grave.
Naturally, the oligarchist may assert: “what would stop individuals in a voluntary society from forming into gangs to assert authority about things they agree on collectively?” The short answer to this is: Nothing would stop them. Although if Anarchem were established, it’s principles would be inherently resistant to such behavior. The majority of the society would see such behavior as detrimental and move to disband it. I will concede, that unless the ideals were held with vigilance over time, corruption could take root. This however is true of any human society, and Anarchem, being naturally resistant to collectivism may fare better.
All of these arguments aside. It has been proven that the current militarized police force is little more than the enforcement arm for the oligarchy. They are well armed mafia soldiers, and do not serve the people. DeShaney v. Winnebago County Department of Social Services and Warren v. District of Columbia are two cases that the court upheld that police do not have a constitutional duty to protect citizens. This is simply because the constitution doesn’t apply to citizens, a point that is out of the scope this section. Still, since there are multiple cases asserting the police do not need to protect citizens, it clearly demonstrates the truth is, the police are only there to “protect and serve” the interests of the oligarchy.
