Define this alleged "law of attraction." Also, beware the correlation fallacy cum hoc ergo propter hoc, or, "With this, therefore because of this."

People who perceive a need to be armed for self-defense may need to actually defend themselves because there is a real preexisting need or higher probability of encountering threats, not because they're looking for trouble, or because some psychic voodoo magnetism pulls trouble to them.

Of course, cops are another story altogether, but we're talking about sane people here, not government goons who seek to inflict violence as a necessary part of their jobs.

Sort:

I think this is true in some areas. But I guess for most parts of the world not. At least currently. The biggest problem is not people but AI and different kinds of warfare. How do you defend yourself against that?

or because some psychic voodoo magnetism pulls trouble to them.

Law of Attraction is the belief that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, people can bring positive or negative experiences into their life. The belief is based on the idea that people and their thoughts are both made from "pure energy", and that through the process of "like energy attracting like energy" a person can improve their own health, wealth, and personal relationships.

For me, this does make a lot of sense and it's not so "psychic" as you say it is. I experienced it in my own life so many times.

This doesn't mean you have to be ignorant. Sitting in a warzone and just thinking positive doesn't help you in that kind of situation.

A. [citation needed]

B. You're moving the goalposts and changing the subject now. Besides, guerrilla warfare with small arms is demonstrably effective against advanced militaries around the world today if it were to come to that.

Anecdote and confirmation bias don't demonstrate anything. As my own anecdote, I have carried guns when confronting aggressive dogs on multiple occasions, but have never needed a fire extinguisher.

Yes. Positive thoughts don't actually affect the world around you all by themselves. At all.

BTW, what's with the apparent bid bot trail following your comments? Not cool, man.

Not my bot, man.
