I must admit I have always found the idea of a basic income quite attractive. I mean - IF you are going to have a state that raises taxes at all, then surely this must be the most equitable and least controlling form of 're-distribution'. Of course, if your aim is to do away with the state altogether then this does not apply, but my feeling is some degree of state is likely to be around for quite a long time, still!
