The Mystery Behind Smartphone Cameras – Which Ones Are Good?

In this article, we are going to discuss a completely different topic. In today's world, most smartphones are implementing a 12 megapixel camera, 48-megapixel, 64-megapixel, or even a 108-megapixel camera.

Even though these android smartphone cameras perform quite well ultimately when it comes to comparison, we always tend to compare it with an Apple iPhone camera with a 12 megapixel If; the Apple iPhone with a 12- megapixel sensor can take clear and detailed pictures then why do we need this 48 megapixel,64 megapixel, 108-megapixel cameras
So ultimately what is the main difference?

Apart from smartphones when you look into a DSLR camera they always tend to come. With 12 megapixels, 16 megapixels which are extremely good for taking pictures But; the shots taken in the DSLR camera IS always the best. So what is the man difference? If you take the android phones that are currently being launched, all the brands tend to say this phone comes with a 48-megapixel camera, 64-megapixel camera, and so on. But when it comes to Phone no buddy talks about the numbers. The main reason behind this is there is no relationship between the megapixels and the image quality.

Megapixel
First, let us see what is a megapixel. All cameras tend to have an image sensor When we look into an mage sensor, whenever we click a photo or an image; the details in that image are always captured or saved in the image sensor. So whenever the images are stored it will not be saved as it is instead it will be saved as a collection of pixels.

Pixel
Now, what is a pixel? So if you want to look or identify a pixel just zoom at the maximum in an image then you will be able to see small boxes In that image that are nothing but pixels. So each pixel captures particular details In the image that you are capturing So these pixels collectively form an Image.

So if it is 1 megapixel then it will have 10 lakh pixels in it Similarly, if it is an 8-megapixel then it will have 80 lakh pixels and if it is a 12-megapixel then it will have 1 crore 20 lakh pixels in it So you can imagine that these many pixels are packed in an image. So if there are more number of Pixels then the image will have stunning details and depth in it.
The resolution of the image changes with respect to the megapixel of the camera. Far example, if you consider a 12-megapixel camera: it would produce an image with 4200 x 2800 resolutiom If you multiply both the resolutions it will result in overall pixel or the total pixels.(4200 x 2800 = 12,600,000 which IS approximately equal to 12 megapixel) This is nothing but megapixel

Let us take a 12-megapixel camera and a 48-megapixel camera. If both the cameras click the same pcture: those two images will look almost similar and identical. But, when you compare both the pictures the resolution of the 12-megapixel mage IS smaller when compared to the 48-megapixel image And the 48-megapixel image looks bigger when compared to a 12-megapixel image If you keep on zooming into both the images the 48-megapixel image contains more details when compared to the 12-megapixel mage Now up to this, we are having a clear understanding of pixels, megapixel, pixel count total pixels.

Pixel size
Now we will discuss about pixel size. Every image sensor has a particular size for each pixel. If you take any camera it will have a fixed pixel size. Every camera sensor has a particular Size, so all the megapixels should be packed inside that camera sensor

1.JPG

Let us take a sensor A, which can accommodate 12 megapixels ie, 1 crore 20 lakh pixels Assume that this sensor has 3 rows and 4 columns: so to make a 12 megapixel we need to arrange 10 lakh pixels in each slot Similarly: if we want to make a 48-megapixel camera from 12 megapixels: we need to arrange 40 lakh pixels in one slot. So to do that the size of each slot will be divided into 4 smaller pixels thus forms 48 megapixels. Thus we get a detailed image on a 48-megapixel camera. This type of technology is called pixel bending This technology is mostly used in the Samsung sensors.

The truth about the 48/64 megapixel camera
The truth about the 48/64 megapixel camera is that Sony sensors always have exact sensor size and pixel size in it, whereas Samsung sensors use this kind of pixel bending technology to make 48 or 64-megapixel cameras That doesn't mean Samsung sensors are Inferior to Sony. Both image sensors are more or less equal in terms of providing quality images. When you look at the images taken in both of these sensors; the image clarity is the same. If so then what about the difference in the images which are shot on iPhone when compared to an android phone The answer is the Apple iPhone has a bigger camera sensor when compared to the Android smartphones And apart from that, the size of a pixel is also relatively bigger in iPhone when compared to the pixel size of android phones. So if the pixel size is higher then the image will have more details in it.

Since Android smartphones are much cheaper when compared to an iPhone, the smartphone brands tend to decrease the size of pixels and the size of their camera sensor This is why the iPhone is always perfect when it comes to taking clear pictures. In the same way; DSLR cameras also have a bigger camera sensor and bigger Pixel size, hence It is able to produce some quality images.

In addition to these, there are also several factors that determine the quality of an image they are Aperture. An Aperture is nothing but an opening for the lens. So if we can allow light for a longer period in an image sensor then the quality of the image improves. So,there are several aperture values such as fl .4 fl 7 fl 8 f20 f2.4,etc.

Another important factor that affects the quality of the image is Image Processing. Even though you are having the same type of mage sensor With the same Pixel sue and same sensor size in two different smartphones, the image quality on both the smartphones is not the same. This is because each brand will have different image processing methods and algorithms which Will be applied to that image. So the output image quality is also dependent on the brand's image processing algorithms.
