It is perhaps the greatest icon of the effects of climate change. Its habitat has been seriously threatened for several decades by the melting of the Arctic poles, which causes the isolation of the species, more difficulty to get food and distances sometimes too long to swim.

According to the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the species could disappear from Earth in the next century.
