FELINE HYPERTENSION

in #animal7 years ago

Following the awareness campaign "The spring of feline hypertension" set up by CEVA, I decided to talk about feline hypertension because a few years ago, my cat was affected by this disease discovered at the age of 17.

Feline hypertension: the silent killer

One in six cats over the age of 7 may be affected. If the cat suffers from chronic kidney disease or hyperthyroidism, the risk is even higher: one in three cats can suffer from hypertension.

My cat was suffering from chronic kidney failure. She had lost her sight because of her high blood pressure and ended up making convulsions.
Hypertension causes serious damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and brain.

Hypertension causes serious damage to the eyes, kidneys, heart and brain.

For the eyes, high blood pressure in the blood vessels of the eye can cause hemorrhage of the retina and it can peel off resulting in a total loss of vision.

A diet with too much salt can promote the appearance of high blood pressure.

The diagnosis is easy, fast and painless thanks to a measurement of the blood pressure by the veterinarian. It is recommended to measure the blood pressure of the cat from 7 years old. In case of high blood pressure, there is a treatment available for cats to reduce blood pressure.
