Today am gonna be educating you guys on....(drums roll)...hedgehogs!.These little guys are sooo cute and friendly i feel everyone should have one.So,we are gonna be talking about weird facts am sure you didn't know about these little fellows.
Numbah 1. Hedgehogs got their name from their foraging habits.As they move through the hedges looking for worms and insects, they make a piggy grunting noise.Hence, hedge-hog.The first hedgehogs was domesticated in 4 B.C.The Romans raised hedgehogs for quills and meat.They're well-represented in literature as Shakespeare mentions hedgehogs inThe Tempest and Midsummer Night’s Dream, and he refers to "hedgepigs" and"urchins.I bet you didn't know these fellas go way back😏
Numbah 2. These cuties have poor eyesight, but excellent senses of smell and hearing and each hedgie has around 5,000 spines — each of which lasts about a year.
Numbah 3. Hedgehogs are known as the gardener's friend.This is because they will eat slugs, beetles, caterpillars, etc., and do no harm.(Talk about natural pesticide😀)
Numbah 4. There are 17 different species of hedgehog and the most common domesticated hedgehog is the African pygmy hedgehog.
Numbah 5. It is illegal to own a hedgehog in Pennsylvania.As well as in several other U.S. states (California, Georgia, Hawaii, and Douglas County, Nebraska). Equally, in Great Britain, European hedgehogs hibernate through out the winter and are considered endangered
Numbah 6.Hedgehogs are not affected by adder venom.This is due to the protein erinacin in the hedgehog's muscular system. (So tiny yet so strong💪)
Numbah 7.Hedgehogs are lactose intolerant and the collective noun is "an array of hedgehogs.These lil guys can run over six feet per second! Oh and before i forget,baby hedgehogs are called hoglets and pictures of these lil cuties taking a bath will totally melt your heart😍❤
