Ground Squirrels at Lake Balaton

On my trip to Lake Balaton last year I could take several pictures of ground squirrels that live there. Usually I take my ground Squirrel pictures in Vienna or in Lower Austria were they are used to humans and come pretty close. At Lake Balaton it was not so easy to get some really closeup pictures but still close enough to get some decent results. Seeing these animals in different terrain is something that I apprecciated a lot. I visited Lake Balaton for some Bird Photography and I was lucky and found several nice birds but only species that I have already seen here in Austria too. From the eastern part of Austria till Asia these ground squirrels can be found and are probably one of my favorite mammals. Still the Best spot is near Vienna where they are really really coming close.

At the Paninsula of Tihany there are some really nice grasslands where these ground squirrels thrive. I could take several nice pictures of them there. Tihany is one of two main spots at Lake Balaton for wildlifephotography. Most of the Lake is used by humans and tourism, thats why most spot are not really suitable for some wildife photography except these two.
