There are things that anger me endlessly! Now I look at the next small animal, which was bought as a gift to a small child. Circumstances changed, and the little rabbit, who never became a member of the family, because it was bought as a toy, came to us.
We always have the same thing. The first problem is when people buy so-called fashion animals. So, after the film 101 Dalmatians, after some time, the shelters were full of Dalmatians. People bought puppies, giving in to fashion, impulse, gave as a gift. But did you know that the Dalmatian is a very difficult dog as for training? As a result, unable to cope with the dogs, people began to give them to shelters.
I do not know how in your country, but in our now it is popular to have an exotic animal or bird. What is the result? Thousands of ads: "I will give the raven / owl / iguana in good hands".

Everything gets worse when the animal was bought as a gift for a small child. Actually - like a toy. Of course, children deserve love and attention. But animals also deserve love and attention. They are alive, they have feelings and emotions, they are able to experience affection, pain, fear.

The little rabbit that is sitting in my room right now is very scared and confused. He does not understand why and why he is here. I talk to him, gently and slowly touch him. So far, he is afraid to leave the carrying box. Step by step, I move the bowls of water and food further away from carrying box, so that he will master the space. I understand that it will take a few days. But how will you explain this to a small child who received a toy and wants to play with it immediately?

Ahead of Christmas and New Year I hope that parents will be more responsible in choosing gifts. Taking an animal into a family is necessary only when you are ready to make it a member of your family and in no other way.

Good post to put out there. I'm hopeful most Steemians will treat animals with respect but a good reminder for all..

It upsets me when people treat animals like this, they deserve our respect and love. That little one has a beautiful home now :)

Hate it when people find small animals exciting but not when they bid, and how they can just give it away I cannot understand. Told my cats yesterday when they were naughty "I am going to take you back to the shelter" and then I laughed and laughed - no matter what they do, if you have them they are yours for life -

I couldn't agree more! It infuriates me how people treat animals as toys and short term entertainment. We have rescued so many animals over the years, and ones that are considered to be problem animals too, but as soon as we bring them home they are part of our family and they stay for life.
