My Chicks are FIVE weeks old!

in #animals7 years ago

For this year's 'Chick Check' I hatched a random assortment of eggs from my laying flock, the cockerel of which is a frizzle poland. As it happens, only four actually hatched but my YouTube viewers have been following their progress since they were a couple of days old.

They're now four and a bit weeks and becoming very naughty. Two are frizzles and two have normal feathers, though even these ones have head crests which suggest they'll have some of their father's traits.

Feel free to watch the video below where I show them off!

As any who watches my Smallholding Diaries series knows, coccidiosis struck these little chicks at the weekend and I was HUGELY worried I might lose some. There were some bloody poops and one, in particular, was very hunched and unhappy looking. However, I'm thrilled to report everyone made it through those 24 hours (though coccidiosis is an 8 day-ish run most chicks die in the bloody poop stage) and as you can see from the video, show no signs of ill health. And now they've had it, they should be good to go for life!

Thanks for reading and apologies for photo quality; these little guys were not staying still to allow their picture's to be taken!

Excellent work you do for raising chickens, especially admirable passion with or that you do. Have a great success. Greetings.

Thanks so much, I appreciate that. I do try hard to make sure all my animals are well looked after.
