Entomology: My passion

Today I'm going to talk about one of my greatest passions: Entomology

It is the insects study, as well as other arthropods, such as arachnids, crustaceans and myriapods.

I discovered this science in the University, I saw in the first semesters of the Agronomic Engineering; I loved from the first moment when I discovered that they had to do with insects; It was divided into two parts, the first Systematic Entomology, where you learnd about the classification of insects (Class, Sub-Class, Order, Family, Sub-Family, until you reach the species that is the scientific name with which you know worldwide the insect) and the second part Economic Entomology, it explains about those insects pests in different crops and the way how to control them.

I enjoyed every class of theory, but my preferred ones were the practices, you interacted with the insects and through the microscope, you observed them and you had to identify the salient features,which you use to recognize the different species.

My favorite insects are those of the order of Lepidoteras (Butterflies and Moths), because they are the most showy in the larval and adult stages, although they are the most difficult to study, since they are used to identify them they are the cell and venation of the pair of wings, as well as their coloration, which is a total challenge and it takes years of study and practice to achieve it.
In the same way, I learned that you have to be careful with certain larvae that can cause hurting in some people when they come into contact with the skin with the Quetas (Hairs) of it.

The Coleoptera (Beetles) are also my favorites, they can reach a large size both their larvae and the adult.

But if I have to choose an insect, the decision is easy, I would choser the Mantis, especially the Mantis religiosa,They are very interesting insects, the mimicry that can be achieved to camouflage with their environment and so avoiding predators or being able to attack their prey is incredible. Its front legs are two claws that have great strength and you present some thorns to better catch their prey. As a curiosity sometimes the female eats the male, during as after mating, in the same way, they are the only known animal that has only one ear and is located in the thorax (back to the head)
