Why are Chinchillas an Endangered Species?
Chinchillas have been an endangered species for over 15 years. Thanks to humans, in that 15 years about 90% of the world population of chinchillas have died. This is because their fur is in high demand since it is so soft (in fact, chinchillas are considered to have the softest fur in the world, and the second densest fur in the world). Since chinchillas are fairly small, it takes over 100 chinchillas just to make a single fur coat! Sadly, not too many people are aware of what a chinchilla is and that they are endangered. If we keep heading in this direction, eventually no one will know what a chinchilla is because they will be extinct...
My 16 year old chinchilla, Cheech:
You can help by not buying coats or other items made from chinchilla fur and by spreading the word about these amazing creatures! Thanks for reading.
