"Kedi" - the hundreds of thousands of cat's in Istanbul - animals and the divine
"It is said, cats are aware of Gods existence. While dog's think people are gods, cats don't. They just know better."
This movie looks excellent. I'm interested in the concepts surrounding animals' and plants' relationships with the divine. Plant spirit medicine i.e. entheogens, are a great entry point into this topic. Plants have a connection to the divine some how, but actual awareness is a very interesting assumption for anything not human. This brings up the 'specie-ist' debate, where we humans pass judgement on things non human, regarding their level of importance or divinity, etc.... It's a tricky one! Many other cultures, especially indigenous ones have more tried and true ways of interpreting the layers of which the natural world exists and perceives.... but when it comes to domesticated plant and animal friends, or urban dwelling ones, like in this movie, the layers of complexity kind of force a different flavor of intelligence. Makes me think of how cats were worshiped in Ancient Egypt and all that.
I can't believe such a movie hasn't been made yet! This looks excellent. More live-action cat dramas! :) Thanks for sharing!
