A Plant That Lives Off Of Poo
Now you might be thinking that this is going to be the grossest article you've ever come to read. And to be honest, it is.
The Nepenthes Lowii, also known as the Shrew's Loo. This plant is generally called Low's pitcher plant. Found on Borneo's Mountain Peaks. It feeds on Shrew mice's faeces after maturing.
In the beginning stages it begins life as a normal meat-eating plant. eating ants and anthropods. It looks and functions a lot like a loo, funnel-shaped with a lid that is always open. It attracts the Mountain Shrew with buttery nectar on the lid. It was concluded by biologists that 57-100% of this plants nitrogen comes from the poo.
The Shrew doesn't eat the plant itself, as it cannot digest fibre, so it just chews the plant to extract the juice that the plant produces a lot of.
Overall it is a win-win situation as there is an exchange of nutrients, even if the one eats a lot of we-know-what...
